We are getting ready to lay a lot of track in the coming weeks, so we took this past Saturday to hold a track laying clinic for our members! The clinic included learning how to lay track on curves and soldering rail joiners and feeder wires. Make sure to come check out our progress during our open house at the Johnson County Fair July 25-29th!

Attention Train Show Vendors!

Want to attend the Iowa City Train Show in October but worried about hotel costs? Have no fear! The University of Iowa has released their fall football schedule and there is no home football game that weekend! This means that hotel costs won't be inflated due to the huge influx of Hawkeye football fans!

The show will be at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Buildings B & C. Come see and shop at over 150 tables of model railroad items such as rollingstock, buildings, and see an expansive selection of books, memorabilia, lanterns and so much more!

The 6th Annual Iowa City Train Show will be on Sunday October 18th, 2026 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds! Join us for over one hundred tables of model railroad trains for sale, as well as other railroad memorabilia such as books, t-shirts, and so much more! Admission is just $5 and children 12 and under are free and free parking! Food will also be available for purchase. Be sure to also stayed tuned in late summer for a special announcement as part of the Hawkeye Model Railroad's 20 year anniversary!

Our 2025 Iowa City Train Show, sponsored by Scale Signs and the Hawkeye Model Railroad Club, is in the books! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support our show! Some quick numbers for those interested:

Total Attendance: 485 - New Show Attendance Record!

Total Vendors: 27, with 8 vendors coming for the first time

Total Club Open House Attendance: 575 - Highest attendance for a single day open house to date!

It's finally here! Our 2025 Iowa City Train Show is going on right now at the Johnson County Fairgrounds until 3pm! The club building is also open for tours and they are running trains! Come check it out! Admission for adults is just $5 and kids 12 and under free!

For the first time in show history, we'll be having the Iowa Central Modular Railroad with four of their N scale T Trak modules!

The ICMRR group started about 40yrs ago, starting with HO modules travelling to Dyersville for the Ertal show. Many years later, the group changed to N scale TTrak and our first N scale show was the NMRA event at Kirkwood a few years ago. They have also been at the Monticello Iowa show every year since their move from Central City, Iowa and did Central City several years as an HO group.

Also new to the show will be a people's choice modelling contest! HMRC club members will be displaying their custom models and you as the public get to vote on who you think is the best!
