Ice cream, sprinkles, woodland creatures, and a little nostalgia!

Tomorrow we’re opening The Little Things, a solo show by Ashley Bevington, whose playful ceramics celebrate food, nature, and childhood memories.

Growing up surrounded by 50 acres of woods in rural Ohio, Ashley loved discovering mushrooms and little creatures under logs and building forts with her brothers. Those memories now inspire her whimsical stump creations, while her love of food inspires pieces that turn everyday moments into celebrations.

And here’s a fun detail! Ashley tumbles her handmade ceramic sprinkles for 2–3 days to give them perfectly smooth edges. It’s just one example of the care that goes into each piece.

We can’t wait to share all the little things with you tomorrow!

We’re excited to feature new work by Alea Mae, a member of the AKAR team, Iowa City artist, and educator at the Iowa Ceramics Center.

Alea’s wheel-thrown functional ceramics are high-fired in gas reduction, creating rich surfaces and subtle variations in color.

Stop in, see the work, and enjoy an evening of art throughout downtown Iowa City.

Three artists, three distinct approaches to surface, brought together through pattern, repetition, and a restrained palette.

A teapot by Peter Karner, whose work explores the relationship between form and decoration.

The repeated pattern moves across the body in soft greens, browns, and smoky grays, while the copper and coiled-wire handle adds another layer of line and rhythm.

Support The Studio Potter, one yunomi at a time.

This year, 150 yunomi were generously donated by participating artists as part of our Studio Potter Donation, benefiting The Studio Potter Journal Writers Fund.

About 70 of those donated yunomi are still available, including the group shown here.

The Studio Potter Donation is just one part of the larger Yunomi Invitational collection, so there are still many other yunomi to explore as well, both in the gallery and online.

Purchasing one of the Studio Potter Donation yunomi directly supports The Studio Potter and the writing and voices it helps bring to the ceramics community.
