Some people leave their mark on skiing through their accomplishments on snow, while others help shape the sport through their passion, dedication, and contributions to the ski community. CB Vaughn Jr. is a name connected to the rich history and culture of skiing, and a reminder of the people who have helped make this sport what it is today.

Two Olympic gold medals, five World Championship titles, and a career that changed the way we look at giant slalom.

Ted Ligety wasn’t just fast. He pushed the limits of ski racing with his technical precision, aggressive style, and ability to make the impossible look effortless. From the World Cup podium to Olympic glory, Ligety left his mark on skiing for generations to come.

Today we’re highlighting Stephani Victor, one of the most inspiring athletes in adaptive skiing.

Stephani has built an incredible career on the slopes, becoming a Paralympic champion and one of the most accomplished adaptive ski racers in the world. Her determination, competitive spirit, and love for skiing have helped push the sport forward while inspiring countless others to get out on the mountain.

From the race course to the broader ski community, Stephani’s impact goes far beyond the medals. She’s a reminder that skiing is about challenging yourself, pushing boundaries, and finding a way to keep moving forward.

Brad Holmes is one of those skiers who helped change what people thought skiing could be.

A Lake Tahoe native, Holmes joined the U.S. Ski Team in 1984 at just 15 years old, making him the youngest member of the team at the time. He went on to win a World Junior Championship and rack up more than 70 career victories as a mogul skier.

But Holmes’ impact went far beyond competition.

As skiing began moving toward the modern freeskiing era, Holmes became one of the sport’s most recognizable personalities. His aggressive style, creativity, punk-rock attitude and willingness to push the boundaries made him a standout in Matchstick Productions films and helped define the culture of skiing in the 1990s and early 2000s.

His partnership with K2 and signature Outlaw ski became another part of that legacy, representing a shift toward skis and skiing that were built around creativity, freedom and individual expression.

Holmes wasn’t just a great competitor. He was part of a generation that helped take skiing somewhere new.

From the mogul course to the big screen, Brad Holmes left his mark on skiing and helped lay the groundwork for the freeskiing culture we know today.

Two extraordinary athletes. One remarkable partnership. One shared vision of pushing the boundaries of ski mountaineering.

We are proud to celebrate the nomination of Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.

Together, Jim and Hilaree became one of the most accomplished partnerships in modern ski mountaineering. Their expeditions took them to some of the most challenging and remote terrain on the planet, culminating in the historic 2018 first ski descent of the Lhotse Couloir from the summit of Lhotse.

Their accomplishments went far beyond individual descents. They helped redefine what was possible in ski mountaineering and brought the sport to a worldwide audience.

Hilaree’s legacy continues to inspire generations of skiers and adventurers, while Jim has continued pursuing the goals they shared, carrying their spirit of exploration forward into new challenges.

The Hall of Fame nomination recognizes not only what they accomplished, but the lasting impact they made on skiing, adventure, and the culture of exploration.

There are certain skiers who become part of the history of American ski racing, and Erik Schlopy is one of them.

For 18 years, Erik raced at the highest level of the sport, representing the U.S. at three Olympic Games and seven World Championships. He became a seven-time U.S. national champion and stood on the World Championship podium in 2003, earning bronze in giant slalom.

But his story goes beyond the results. A broken back, four knee surgeries, and plenty of other setbacks could have ended his career more than once. Instead, Erik kept coming back and continued to find a way to compete at the highest level. That perseverance became as much a part of his legacy as his results.

It was pretty special to spend some time with Erik and hear a little about the career and history behind the skier. These are the stories that make ski history so cool, and why having people like Erik in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame matters.
