The picture says around 1900. There is a framed photo of a large amount of snow on a downtown street in front of a business - I don’t recall the year. The framed photo at one time hung on the wall in the first floor of the Gossard building. I did hear of another U.P. town reporting that snow like this hasn’t been bad since 1937. Do you have any Friends of the Library photos that show big snow like this weekend’s? Please post or send in messenger for our consideration - Susan Phare Boback

Though this isn't Ishpeming history, the foods and customs celebrate the Finnish heritage here in the U.P.

Now that the former Johnson's Drug Store, the Snyder's Downtown Drug Store has closed, I was thinking about the phone number. It seems to me, that when the hospital was on 4th Street, the drug store, the hospital and the police station phone numbers were all very similar. The drug store 486-4405, the hospital 486-4401, and the police 486-440? I don't think the hospital uses that number now, do they? or the police?
Just a memory of details. What are your memories of the numbers or the drugstore?

A detail that I overlooked from our Sam Cohodas home and Lodge tour: did the event make any money? Truly, it wasn't just about making money. Promoting our Society, community and preservation were equally important. But happy to say: after paying for consumables, supplies, the transportation and such, the profit was a bit over 3,000.00. We'd again like to thank our homeowners, attendees, volunteers and all who contributed to this event!

The Ishpeming Public Schools Halls of Excellence Class of 2026 inductees has been selected. Beginning tomorrow, Friday, November 14th, we'll begin introducing our Class of 2026. Once again, there was no shortage of deserving individuals.

One of our goals from the very beginning of this process has been to select individuals who represent the diverse spectrum of Hematite family members who have contributed to the success of our students. That includes educators, support staff, a few of our thousands of outstanding graduates, and supporters of our school district.

So, stay tuned. Over the next ten days, we'll share the names of our 2026 inductees.

Our beloved miners will never be forgotten!!
Ely Township is partnering with the Ishpeming Historical Society, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, the Marquette Regional History Center, and the Barnes-Hecker 100th Anniversary Committee for planning and fundraising efforts to bring the memorial park to fruition.
