Ishpeming Area Historical Society & Museum Anatomy of a Murder/John Voelker, Kelly Johnson, Glenn Seaborg; early citizens, home, businesses, cl We make appointments for group tours, and individuals.

Discovering, Preserving, Exhibiting the history of the Ishpeming area. Organized in 1999, the Society encourages annual memberships and welcome sponsored spending for special projects. The museum focuses on every day life, people, businesses and past times that showcase Ishpeming's citizens. Discover legends of Ishpeming - John Voelker, Kelly Johnson, Glenn Seaborg; early City documents, schools, Anatomy of a Murder and Gossard artifacts, military uniforms, VASA and other organizations, Blue Notes, bands and music history, and much more. Ishpeming High School year books and other materials are available for research for a donation. We currently offer hours, 10-4 (EST) Mondays year around; and Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, May - October. During the months of November - April, we continue the process of entering all accessions into Past Perfect museum software, and make changes for seasonal displays.Our research library includes city directories from the late 1800's, early 1900's; IHS yearbooks, VASA minutes, Sanborn 1911 maps, many scrapbooks, and Friends of Carnegie Library calendars. We welcome input, new members and volunteers at any time.

On Monday, October 12th, the Ishpeming Area Historical Society will be having a board meeting which will also be our Annual General Meeting. The public is invited to attend, ask questions, consider participating in some way. No expectation that you have to sit through the whole meeting.

The Gossard Building , Cleveland at 2nd, 6:30. The doors are locked and someone will stand by to let you in until just 6:30. Our meeting is in the Doozers Cookies space.

In honor of this solemn 100th anniversary, Jim Paquette will share his ongoing research of the Barnes-Hecker Mine disaster. Uncovered evidence and documented facts through intense historical research will shed the light of truth that the Barnes-Hecker disaster victims and their families have always deserved.

This Thursday at Friday will be the last days that the Ishpeming Area Historical Society & Museum will be open without an appointment. 11 till 2 both September 10th and 11th.

Located in the historic Gossard Building, Cleveland at 2nd. Next to St Vincent DePaul. From the doors, come back and keep to the left. The elevator is down the small hallway going off to the right. The Museum is located on the 3rd floor, across from where the elevator opens.

Please note the event at the Peterson Auditorium on October 4th.

This year, 2026, the decision was made to keep our museum open
September 3&4 as well as
September 10&11.

We are located on the 3rd floor of the Historic Gossard building, follow the arrows on the floor from the front door to the left, where you’ll find the elevator.

In our museum you can view displays of subjects that have recently been discussed in the Rooted in Ishpeming group, and in regards to the Ishpeming Library history, and so much more!

Sunday is the 2nd of two Barnes-Hecker 100th Anniversary cemetery tours in Ishpeming, 1pm till 4. Several families will be graveside telling the stories of their loved ones. Most will have photos and others artifacts that make it a fuller experience. It's sad, but also a part of our local history. It's also a way to honor those who were lost. Come to the Sexton office for directions.
