The Jackson Military Academy and School of Fine Arts began in 1899, and enrolled a total of 55 male cadets and 25 women. The academy offered courses of study in college preparation, commercial life, or fine art. In addition to the offered exercise for the mind, the Military Department implemented forms of healthy exercise in order to develop, enable, and qualify students to be more efficient in the classroom.

The hat pictured is an article of the male cadet's uniform, as also depicted being worn by Major Byrd and Captain Hartle in 1905.

The piano in the Oliver House Museum is not only one of the museum's oldest artifacts but also one of the most fascinating.

George Frederick Bollinger purchased the Piano for his daughter, Sarah Bollinger, in 1815. The piano was manufactured in England and shipped across the Atlantic to Philadelphia. From there, the piano traveled by flatboat and wagon to Bufordville, MO, to the Bollinger's Settlement.

To learn more about the piano that once filled homes with music and camaraderie, visit us Sunday, March 2nd, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM!
