On this day in 1880, the late, great Hans Hofmann (1880-1966) was born in Weissenburg in Bayern, Germany. Hofmann is one of the most important figures of postwar American art. Celebrated for his exuberant, color-filled canvases, and renowned as an influential teacher for generations of artists—first in his native Germany, then in New York and Provincetown Hofmann played a pivotal role in the development of Abstract Expressionism.

The gallery is open until 6pm today, but our M - F crew is out remembering how incredibly special this place is… can anyone find the Grand Teton? We love Jackson Hole (kind of a lot) and love sharing it with others. Other than Tayloe Piggott Gallery, what’s the place or thing you love most about JH?

For one of us, it’s skiing.♥️

CURATOR'S CHOICE: Dutch textile artist Marianne Kemp began sewing at the age of 13. In her studio works with five (now six!) different looms, each with different weaving possibilities. With her work, Kemp wants to stimulate her viewers to look more closely, to observe, to take their time.

"The image is made in your head, vision is not a camera. Your mind pieces together your perceptions from all the senses. Vision is a humble construction, put together with tape- every minute of your life." -excerpt from writing by Doug and Mike StarnDoug and Mike Starn's series, 'Everything is Liquid,' currently on view at TPG, defy the constructs and constraints of medium. The works are made of Ultrachrome K3 Epson ink jet prints on gelatin hand-coated Zerkall paper, acrylic paint, Scotch tape, nails and wood-- but what exactly are these works? This paradox of materiality is where the Starns' ontological investigation lies.

Some select works from our upcoming exhibition with artist W. Tucker. Tucker’s works are a palimpsest of found materials, layered with numerous mediums including charcoal, watercolor, graphite, resin, ink, and oil. Created by his non-dominant hand, Tucker’s works acquire an element of innocence and child-like purity, providing a new interpretation of discarded, old materials.

BREAKFAST IS SERVED. In 1997, moved to New York’s Hudson Valley with his wife, jeweler Gabriella Kiss, and their sons, Jack and August. The barn he built on the property and its surrounding meadows offer the space not only to collect a broad range of local woods, but to have them milled and dried. This Elm Branch Table, just arrived from upstate New York, combines an impeccable ebonized walnut slab with a gilded elm branch. CHRIS LEHRECKE
