We’re snow excited for Christmas by Candlelight! ❄️

Tomorrow, Friday, December 5, the Eudora Welty House & Garden will close at 2 p.m., and our team will set up at the Old Capitol Museum starting at 4 p.m.

This year, we’re bringing winter weather indoors with new snowy crafts for all ages — plus cookies by Just Vanilla and milk donated by Prairie Farms. And of course, we’ll have typewriters ready for your letters to Santa. 🎄✍️🍪🥛

MDAH offices, the archives library, the Museum of Mississippi History, Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, Eudora Welty House & Garden, Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, and the Old Capitol Museum will be closed on Thursday, November 27, for a state holiday.

All museum sites will reopen on Friday, November 28. MDAH offices and the archives library will remain closed on Friday, November 28, and Saturday, November 29.

MDAH’s annual holiday events – Christmas by Candlelight Tour and Possum Ridge Exhibit – return in early December. The Possum Ridge model train exhibit will open at the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum on Dec. 2. There is no charge to view the exhibit, which will close on Dec. 31. We will be closing at 2 p.m. today, and hope you can join us tonight at the Old Capitol Museum from 4 to 8 p.m. for Christmas by Candlelight. This completely free event will be full of holiday magic! We will have a children’s craft corner, where kids can enjoy cookies, sip hot cocoa, and make fun holiday crafts like the ones pictured here.
The evening also features live music, stunning holiday decorations, model trains, and plenty of treats. Bundle up and hop on the free shuttle buses running between sites until 8 p.m., or explore at your own pace. The Mississippi Department of Archives & History will present its Christmas by Candlelight Tour on Friday, Dec. 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums, the Old Capitol Museum, the state Capitol, and the Governor’s Mansion. The tour offers a festive evening filled with live holiday music, crafts, sweet treats, and a photo opportunity with Santa.
