❄️ Winter Solstice ❄️

Tonight marks the longest night and shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

This isn’t about how far Earth is from the Sun, it’s about Earth’s tilt. From here on out, daylight slowly returns, sunrises arrive earlier, and sunsets stretch a little longer.

The solstice is a powerful reminder of seasonal cycles, dark skies, and why winter nights are some of the best for stargazing.

Thank you for supporting night-sky education and the science behind what we see above us.

Our night sky tells a story worth protecting.

This year, Teton County became the world’s first International Dark Sky Community — a milestone made possible by people who believe in keeping our skies natural, healthy, and full of wonder.

And we’re just getting started.
We’re now working toward creating the largest protected dark-sky region on Earth across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This effort will support wildlife, improve community safety, protect human health, reduce energy waste, and ensure that future generations can look up and see the Milky Way with their own eyes.

Every small action — from choosing dark-sky-friendly lighting to spreading awareness — brings us closer to that vision. If you feel inspired to support this next chapter, your year-end gift helps launch the groundwork ahead.

✨ Together, we can keep the dark sky momentum alive.

Teton County has official lighting regulations to help reduce light pollution, but are you following them?

From shielding your lights to using warmer bulbs, these rules are designed to protect our night skies, local wildlife, and community well-being.

In Part 3 of our Light Pollution & Dark Sky Friendly Series, we’re breaking down exactly what’s required and why it matters, especially if you love stargazing in Wyoming.
