Dr. Nashlie Sephus, an AI researcher and entrepreneur from Jackson, Mississippi, transformed 12 acres of abandoned land into the Jackson Tech District. She built it into an innovation hub that combined housing, maker spaces, and office buildings, supporting local entrepreneurs and aspiring tech talent. Known for her work in machine learning and bias mitigation, Sephus had also co‑founded The Bean Path, a nonprofit promoting tech access in underserved communities. Her efforts revitalized a neglected part of downtown Jackson and provided education and career opportunities to residents who previously had limited access to tech resources. The Jackson Tech District became a visible example of how technology, entrepreneurship, and community-focused development could intersect to foster equitable growth
