We're so thankful for Vincent and his incredible contributions to art - the deep meaning of his work is a constant source of inspiration and his masterpieces color our world to this day 💛

As we come to the end of Women's History Month, we want to give a big shout out to Beyond Van Gogh's artist-historian, F***y Curtat.

She’s a Ph.D. candidate at the L'Université du Québec à Montréal and was responsible for providing historical and biographical information about the artists.

F***y has a vast knowledge and is passionate about making the art viewing experience accessible and engaging for everyone, especially younger audiences.

It's and we're celebrating with a painting study of Vincent's favorite flower: Sunflowers 🌻

"The sunflower is mine, in a way" - Vincent in a letter to Theo, 1889

Vincent's fascination with sunflowers began as he sought to broaden the color palette he used when painting still lifes. He saw that traditional paintings sold well for other artists, but he still ached to try his hand at brighter color contrasts 💛

The painting pictured here isn't the only sunflower painting that Van Gogh completed. There are actually FIVE different versions of sunflowers scattered around the globe.

Vincent's love of sunflowers was also an integral part of his idea to create an artists' community in Arles with the help of Paul Gauguin. When he heard Gauguin was impressed by his still lifes, Van Gogh covered the walls of the Yellow House's guest bedroom with new sunflower paintings. Gauguin said the choice of decoration was 'completely Vincent'.

Vincent's name became so synonymous with sunflowers that friends brought bouquets of them to his funeral 🌻
