With our programming, museum and special events, we not only preserve the history of our county in west central Iowa, we make it come alive again!

Our Greene County Historical Museum is located at 219 East Lincoln Way in Jefferson, and our mailing address is P.O. Box 435 with Zip code 50129. Museum hours are on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, from May 1 thru October, and by appointment at (515) 386-8544. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The president of the historical society is David John, of Jefferson.

Second stop on our 10/27 tour was the Jefferson Post Office. We were led by Denise O’Brien Van and postal employees Denise, Craig, and Liz and Rhea shared much information.

Our Historical Society Walk 10/27 started out at Jefferson Telecom. Thanks to Jamie Daubendiek and Tony Clingan for a wonderful tour of their museum.

Neil Hamilton joined us 10/25 courtesy of the Friends of Greene County Iowa Parks and the Greene County Community Foundation. Very interesting talk and book signing.

The Schoolboy Soldiers of Rippey unveiled two beautiful monuments today, one at the courthouse and one at Old Rippey Cemetery. Here are photos of the Jefferson ceremony.

Josh Dyer (in photo) and Mike Rowley installed a headstone on the grave of Roswell S. Cory on Saturday, 10/3/2026. Josh had previously proved Cory's military service and where he was buried (he didn't have a stone). He worked with Mike Rowley to contact the V.A., and they were able to get the stone which was installed at the Jefferson Cemetery.
