Rescheduled! We are excited to have this program the week before America's 250th!

Join us for an evening with historian, Ken Johnston of History Now:

While Northern colonies called for Independence early, Georgia, the youngest colony, was deeply split, with a large, prosperous population remaining loyal to the British Empire as others rallied around the cause of Independence. This program examines the intense, often violent conflict between Georgia's Patriots seeking independence and the Loyalists who fought to maintain the British union. Using primary source documentation, multimedia presentation, and hands-on Living History demonstration, this presentation by History Now tells the story of how the state was transformed from a chaotic battleground of shifting alliances and brutal guerrilla warfare into one of the independent United States of America.

Happy Doctors' Day!

On this day in 1842, Dr. Crawford W. Long performed the first painless operation using sulphuric ether on James Venable in Jefferson, Georgia.

The first Doctors' Day observance was held in Winder, Georgia on March 30, 1933. The date chosen was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia.

President George H. W. Bush proclaimed March 30 as “National Doctors’ Day” in 1990, and the red carnation is the official flower.

Now, we celebrate Doctors' Day nationwide in honor of Crawford W. Long's discovery here in Jefferson, Georgia!
