Jekyll Island Club members J. P. Morgan Sr. and J. P. Morgan Jr. owned a series of yachts named Corsair, several of which later served in wartime.
Corsair II became the USS Gloucester during the Spanish-American War, Corsair III served in both WWI and WWII under the U.S. Navy, and Corsair IV — once the largest yacht built in America — was sold to the British Navy for just $1 to support WWII efforts.

Drumbeats in Georgia? 🥁

Premiering on Jekyll in 1973, the musical depicted Georgia’s founding through scenes set on Jekyll Island, at Fort Frederica, and in Savannah during the 1730s and 1740s.

Time to party 💃🕺

The Baker-Crane Carriage House typically held horses, hunting dogs, and carriage equipment, but on occasion it became a gathering space for Club staff. Club employees and members’ staff enjoyed festivities here, including parties, oyster roasts, and dances.

A day on the water ⛵

When Jekyll Island Club employees arrived aboard steamers, they sometimes towed a scrow, like the one pictured here. Scrows were used to transport luggage, horses, supplies, and even staff to the island in support of Club members’ vacations.
