David A Zegeer Coal-Railroad Museum

David A Zegeer Coal-Railroad Museum The David A. Zegeer Coal-Railroad Museum is local history museum located at 9505 Ste B Hwy 805 in Jenkins, Kentucky across from the former Jenkins High School.

The museum was dedicated on May 9, 1998. The museum is housed in an authentically restored 1911 train station which it shares with a bank. Included in the museum's collection are photographs of historic and modern coal mining, actual tools and other artifacts used by the railroads and mines, and scrip formerly used in the company stores. All of the exhibits illustrate the history of Jenkins and the Consolidation Coal Company.

Lois Greer, longtime curator of the David A Zegeer museum, gave many years of dedicated service to the museum before she retired. Mrs Greer was a friend to many and will be missed.
I found some comments about her in reviews of the museum and thought I would share.
*The lady working at the museum was friendly and knowledgeable about coal mining, and a number of the local mines and towns. (April 2015
*The best part of museum was the history shared by the woman that worked there. October, 2016
*We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. The lady working was very informative and funny. October, 2019
