Rich oak paneling and ornate stained glass original to 1903. A secret billiards room with a frieze of medieval scenes hand-painted by Ludwig E. Farber. A Italianate style pool house designed by Horace Trumbauer. These were some of the delights of that we enjoyed today at our Patrons’ Party at Lyndanwalt, the Tudor Revival residence built for Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Hering in Abington in 1903. A native Philadelphian, Hering was the founder and president of the Globe Ticket Company (est. 1868, now Globe Ticket), the largest printer of theater tickets and streetcar transfers in the world. Like many successful Philadelphian businessmen at the turn of the century, Hering purchased farmland to establish a country home away from the bustle of the city. His nephew, architect Oswald Hering, incorporated local schist and half timbering in the house design.
Every year, we celebrate and thank our members at the Patron level or above with a party at a historical residence, where our rich local history lives on. Here, in addition to enjoying the company of fellow history enthusiasts, we congregate to learn about the figures and moments that shaped our communities. We would love for you to join us at the next Patrons’ Party. Strengthen your commitment to preserving history for future generations by joining our Patron donor-level today!
