Here is the first piece of a series where we would like to introduce or some of the members of the local art scene in the form of a quick chat.
Please meet Katherine Mojzsis, painter and art educator.
🎨 You’re a painter — we showed your abstract work in a solo show with us back in 2022.
It’s been a minute, so we wanted to catch up and see what you’re up to these days...
🖌️ What are you working on this summer?
I’m experimenting with something totally new — diving into still life and self-portraits. A big shift from abstraction, and I’m loving the challenge.
🎨 What do you miss most from the Jersey City art scene?
Community. 💛
🖼️ Any shows you’re excited to see?
Yes! The Africa & Oceania exhibition is back at The Met, and there’s always something magical at The Frick Collection.
✨ Any shows you’d recommend in JC or NYC?
Not exactly a “show,” but The Morgan Library is incredible. J.P. Morgan’s office alone is a work of art.
📚 What are you reading right now?
There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak. Just started it! The story centers around Ancient Mesopotamia
☀️ Favorite summer treat?
Soft serve vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles
💫 Do you have a magical wish?
Many! But one is to own a house in Ireland
🧠 Why is art education important?
Appreciation. Slowing down. Really looking at art.
In class, we take the time to analyze, contextualize, and connect. I love watching students go from casual viewers to deeply engaged. That spark of connection — it stays with them.
🎭 What keeps you motivated — in art or in life?
reading and walking are my great motivators
