Friends of Alley Cat Gallery, tonight is the wrap up meeting for this past October's Jersey City Art & Studio Tour. As many of you know, Alley Cat Gallery was not officially registed this year because the hours for Galleries was changed to evening hours which is not what we wanted for us or for those of you that come to visit us in the alley every year. So tonight is your chance to listen to the organizers and give your opinions about what worked or didn't work for you as either participants or visitors to the studios/galleries. There are also two online surveys you can take today to voice your thoughts. If you want to attend tonight's meeting you must register to get the zoom link.

The 35th JCAST is behind us - let’s discuss what worked, what didn’t, before planning begins for the 36th.

Was the split focus a success? Should the experiment continue with tweaks or be abandoned? Should JCAST stay a city-wide event or be divided into neighborhoods? Lots of topics to discuss.

Jersey City born and resident Miguel Cardenas was trained as an architect and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute in 1986. He continued his studies at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture where he received his Master of Science Degree in Advanced Architectural Design and Theory. Miguel has practiced as an architect for over 25 years and has been an integral part of the Jersey City artist community since 2002 where he has exhibited his work in a vast variety of galleries and venues. Miguel is currently teaching Intro to Architectural Design and Green Construction as part of the Careers and Technology Education Program at Dickinson HS in Jersey City.
Miguel’s digital and hand-cut collage/assemblages attempt to blur the line between art and design by creating a narrative of associations. Architectonic spatial concepts are applied by overlaying juxtaposing appropriated iconic images and text taken from art history, social history as well as pop culture. Miguel’s work attempts to inhabit the ambiguous, interstitial space or grey zone that exists in between binary oppositions-
where things are NOT “either/or”, BUT “both/and”.
Come by Alley Cat Open Studio Celebration October 5 & 6 to see Miguel Cardenas Art and Design and his brilliant work!

Silver Sculptor, Joanne Simmons has always been drawn to the beauty of structure and form, which is why her jewelry designs are heavily influenced by the clean lines of architecture and the organic elements of nature. After moving to the U.S. from London in 2005, she set out on this exciting journey to turn her passion for design and craftsmanship into a reality, and has been doing just that ever since!
Joanne is one of the founders of Alley Cat Gallery and will have her table of hand crafted jewelry at the Alley Cat Open Studio Celebration on October 5th and 6th, celebrating 15 years of bringing art to the community!
