Founded in 2019, History on Wheels was created to preserve and share the overlooked stories of African American military service through immersive storytelling and educational experiences.

Now, that mission is becoming permanent through the African Descendants Military & Historical Museum in Joliet.

Construction Update: Progress You Can See

We are excited to share another major step forward at the future home of the African Descendants Military & Historical Museum!

The new parking lot has been installed, with a few finishing touches still to come, including striping the parking spaces. Construction on the new porch and accessible deck also began and will be completed just in time for our Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration.

Preparing to see our community gather on the newly improved grounds makes this progress especially meaningful. Each completed phase brings us closer to creating a safe, welcoming, and permanent space where the stories of African American military service, sacrifice, and resilience can be preserved and shared.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this journey through donations, partnerships, volunteer service, encouragement, and belief in the vision.

The work continues but look how far we have come.
