So fascinating to read that standards in photos and retouching haven't changed much since the late 1800's. According to one 1895 photography guide, female subjects required a heavier hand when retouching, particularly "In cases of ladies who have been noted for beauty, but whose beauty has somewhat faded.”

Cheekbones on women used to be considered "too masculine."
