"For as far back as I can remember, horses have been prancing in my soul. I paint in a traditional style for those wanting realistic portrayals of their horses, but I also enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional styles and mediums to create my other equine works. Horses evolved from wild and free spirited ancestors and I find it difficult to capture all that energy in one style of painting. A friend once told me that I could have a one woman show and people would think there were several artists being represented. Maybe so, but like a wild pony, I must be free to explore. Sometimes my traditional style of painting must give way to those imaginary horses that race happily through my head. I paint for the joy of expression and when others appreciate my work I know I’ve been successful. If my unorthodox style must have a label call it “Equine-ist”. My goal is to portray both the uniqueness of each horse, as well as the universal equine spirit. Capturing the essence of these kindred spirits, who continue to prance in my soul, is my passion." ~Charlene Pryor
