The Studios Inc

The Studios Inc It is the only program of its kind in Kansas City. Studios Inc exhibitions are open to the public with free admission.

The Studios Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides studio space, professional development, networking, and exhibitions for mid-career artists in Greater Kansas City. Studios Inc Programs: Residency Program, Public Exhibition Series Program, Internship Program

Residency Program
The Resident Artist Program provides studio and exhibition space to local mid-career artists. Requirements as a Residen

t Artist state that applicants must be artists with at least seven years experience since undergraduate studies or professional equivalent. Mid-career is a flexible category, defined partly by age and partly by "time on the job", but they have one thing in common: their work has developed and maintained presence for a number of years as evidenced by regional or national recognition. The primary benefits of the Resident Artist program include:
• Providing up to 3,000 square feet of private studio space
• Providing artists access to a wood shop
• Providing professional development opportunities to artists to enable such artists to build business acumen
• Providing networking opportunities
• Engaging in other activities to support artists

Public Exhibition Series Program
Studios Inc exhibits work from its resident artists. Each exhibition runs for 5 weeks and is inaugurated with a second Friday opening night reception; artist talks are hosted on the following Saturday. All receptions are on the first evening of the show from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at The Studios Inc Exhibition Space 1708 Campbell, Kansas City, MO 64108. Exhibition sponsorship at Studios Inc offers significant philanthropic and marketing opportunities. Internship Program
With committed staff, dedicated resident artists, patron involvement and a compelling mission Studios Inc offers opportunity for an immersive and contagious experience. The intern will interact with business and visual art community leaders who offer a valuable network for career development. The internships are custom designed in respect to specific programmatic needs and the creative inclinations of the participant. Through the process of interviews, identifying intern goals and tracking performance measures, the program results insure the development of all parties involved. The intern’s abilities, interests, and availability will shape specific duties. This is a volunteer position; if it fulfills an academic requirement, The Studios Inc will collaborate with the candidate and academic institution to create a fun, resume-building experience. Patron Program
The Patron Program matches patrons with artists to underwrite a year’s operating costs for their working studio space while in residence. For a $5,000 donation, patrons not only play an imperative role in The Studios Inc, they also have the option to receive the gift of a work from the artist to add to their private collection (the amount of the contribution that is tax deductible is limited to the difference between the amount of the contribution and the value of the art work received) or take a the full tax deduction for their contribution. Furthermore, the Patron Program provides the opportunity for a heightened level of dialogue between patron and artist. Patrons are encouraged to cultivate relationships with the artists to learn more about the creative process and perhaps provide additional career assistance through networking and patron resources.

Office & Gallery Assistant Terri Pollack wrote about Armin Mühsam’s work in our group exhibition, STUDIOS INC | 2026:

“‘Dispassionate Reverie’ is a painting within a painting taking a landscape and turning it into a still life. He has painted a stack of canvases leaning against the wall in the studio; they are set on top of blocks to be kept off the floor.
Breaking down and defining the title reinforces my interpretation of the work. Dispassionate: not influenced by strong feeling - especially : not affected by personal or emotional involvement and Reverie: a state of dreamy meditation or fanciful musing lost in reverie; a daydream; a fantastic, visionary, or impractical idea reveries that will never come to fruition.
The painting in front is a landscape depicting a red box or crate in the foreground in front of 6 tall trees all clustered together in a line. The sky is partly cloudy with a full moon. It reminds me of the surrealist Henri Magritte with the spatial fluctuations sans human figures.

‘Condensed Configuration’ depicts a pedestal set on a tiled floor in front of a striped wall partition in front of a white wall. On the pedestal are two shapes supporting each other in space, they cast an interesting shadow that suggests a facial profile. The wall, floor and partition are all beautifully textured and patterned. There is balance and tranquility in the image that I really enjoy.

STUDIOS INC | 2026 will remain on view through May 16th. Please join us Saturday May 9th for our second Artist Talk from 12 to 1 pm for some refreshments and engaging discussions.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday 10-4 pm, and Saturday 12-4 pm
