50/50’s Making Moves is a call for support from our community. With two full years of programming at our home in the West Bottoms under our belt, we have set our sights on a new plot of land to activate in the fall.

If you supported 50/50’s founding in 2014 you are aware of 50/50’s mission to activate underutilized urban space by providing a sustainable and progressive platform for exhibiting local and national artist’s work. You can support the next chapter of 50/50 by purchasing merchandise, making a donation and volunteering for on-site clean up at our new home located at 2908 Nicholson Ave in the East Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri. Volunteers can sign up for one, two or all of the work days on our website. Volunteers that work four or more days will receive a 50/50 hat for free as a token of our gratitude.

With your support, this fall, 50/50 will reopen at its new home. The occasion will be celebrated and marked with the debut of 50/50’s first publication that documents all of 50/50's work, programming and history to date. Sale of the publication will support 50/50’s programming.

A message from our next exhibiting artist, Marina Peng:
~KC Performance Opportunity~

When: Friday, October 20, 7-10 pm
Where: FIFTY FIFTY, 1628 Wyoming St.
Pay: $20/hour

Hey! I’m Marina and I am an artist based in St. Louis. My first solo-exhibition, titled Take Care, opens on October 20 at FIFTY FIFTY. For opening night, I’m looking to find 2-3 performers for a performance piece that will take place from 7-10 pm.

The performance is (tentatively) titled Token and is very simple. I created a platform for a single performer to stand on, and the only requirement is to remain on the platform. You as the performer can choose whether or not to engage with the public around you. This piece is meant to comment on tokenism, aka how marginalized identities are often put on display by institutions or individuals. When on the platform, you will be 8 inches above everyone else in the room.

This is a photo of my friend Rachel standing on the platform. They will be performing for a shift or two at the opening. If you self-identify as someone who is both marginalized and tokenized, I would love to have you perform.
