Horatio Colony House Museum & Nature Preserve

Horatio Colony House Museum & Nature Preserve The Horatio Colony Museum is open for tours May 1- October 15, Wednesday- Sunday from 11 to 4. Public programs held year round.

The Horatio Colony nature preserve is open dawn- dusk always. The Horatio Colony House Museum is a stately 1806 Federal style house, located on Main Street in Keene. The house was the home of Horatio Colony II, descendent of one of Keene’s historic families. The old-time New England home is filled with original family furnishings and fabulous collections, which offer a gracious view of a vanishing

lifestyle of culture, refinement and travel. The furnishings span from late 18th through late 19th century, giving the house a warm, eclectic look of refinement and grace. A beautiful city garden frames the house with perennial borders that provide antique grace and an array of color throughout the season. Norway maples shade a grassy lawn which gives visitors a place to rest and enjoy. The Horatio Colony Nature Preserve is a 645-acre parcel of woodlands and wetlands extending from Daniels HIll Road in Keene, NH south to Forest Avenue in Swanzey, NH. The land is owned and operated by the Colony Memorial Trust. The preserve provides the community with 5.5 miles of hiking trails, a historic cabin and foundations, place-based education initiatives, ongoing research activities, and a public program series. Since the mid-1980's, the Colony Memorial Trust has contracted with Antioch University New England to manage the preserve.

This teddy bear needs a name!
He once belonged to our founder Horatio Colony II and is a favorite of visitors to the museum. We think he would be a really great mascot, but aren’t quite sure what his name should be. Now through January 1 comment on this post what you think he should be called!
We will be selecting a name from all comments across social media on January 2.
