Holiday Sparkles at Powerland

If you’ve ever driven through Holiday Sparkles, you’ve seen the end result: lights, creativity, and that “wow” moment when the kids start pointing out their favorites.

What you don’t always see is what it takes to make it happen: the volunteers, museum groups, late nights, problem-solving, creative thinking, and a whole lot of heart.

We had 17 displays this year that the public could vote on. And you did! Here are the official Top 5 results of the public vote for best display:

#5 Oregon Electric Railway Museum — 217 votes
#4 Antique Implement Society — 245 votes
#3 Willow Creek Railroad — 355 votes
#2 Oregon Vintage Machinery Museum (featuring John Deere) — 367 votes
#1 Branch 15 Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association — 1,225 votes

Congratulations to these groups, and thank you to every single person who built, fixed, carried, plugged in, rewired, and kept it shining. You turned a simple drive into a real holiday tradition for thousands of families. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to the event and voted. We appreciate you.

She offered a trade! A playful surprise!
She held my green doll with the baby Grinch eyes.
Then she handed me something much warmer and real,
A tiny Who-baby! With zero appeal!

I wanted to grumble! I wanted to sneeze!
I wanted to shout, "Take it back, if you please!"
But I looked at the creature, asleep in my suit,
And... I hate to admit it... it’s sort of... well... cute.

It isn’t crying! It isn’t awake!
It’s not making NOISE for goodness sake!
No shrieks and no squeaks, not a peep or a sound,
Just the quietest Who-baby that can be found.

So I’ll sit on this bench with a scowl on my face,
Holding this napping small human in place.
I’m still mean and green! I am NOT soft and deep!
But don't you dare wake it while it is asleep!

A Gift for the Grinch

I stood in the cold with a scowl on my face, Wishing the Whos would just leave this whole place. The noise! And the lights! And the festive display! I was ready to pack up and slither away.

But then came a child, quite small and quite shy, She held out a hand and she looked in my eye. She didn’t bring cookies, or pudding, or roast, She brought me the thing that I wanted the most...

A STATUE OF ME! (And a handsome one, too), Sculpted in clay by a tiny young Who. It’s green and it’s grumpy, with eyes just like mine, A masterful work! It is truly divine!

I suppose that her kindness was terribly sweet, (Though I’d never admit it to those on the street). So I’ll keep this small treasure, I’ll guard it with care... But don't tell the others! I’ve a reputation to bear! 💚😏
