Humanizing History. The MHHE is a free World War II and Holocaust Museum in Kennesaw, GA. Please note that all exhibits are open between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

A part of Kennesaw State University, the Museum presents public events, programs and exhibitions focused on World War II and the Holocaust in an effort to promote education and dialogue about the past and its significance today. At the center of MHHE's mission is education about World War II and the Holocaust. MHHE staff conduct outreach to many schools throughout Georgia, metro Atlanta, the South

east and the nation and work with community groups, organizations, educators, and Kennesaw State University to increase knowledge and understanding about this crucial period in history. The Museum of History and Holocaust Education's public programming and exhibits are free and open to the public thanks to the funding and support of Kennesaw State University and the Marcus foundation. on Monday - Friday. Together, we can educate for a responsible future!

You’ve met our 2025 - 2026 Teacher Ambassadors, and now we want to take a moment to highlight the program leaders, Rabbi Joe Prass and our own Dr. Andrea Miskewicz!

🍎 Rabbi Joe has taught about Judaism and the Holocaust for more than 25 years. He currently serves as Director of the Weinberg Center for Holocaust Education at The Breman Museum, and as Rabbi of Congregation Ner Tamid in Marietta, GA. Rabbi Joe is passionate about blending formal and informal education to inspire meaningful connection and action rooted in Holocaust education and Jewish life.

🍎 Andrea is a museum and education leader with over 16 years of experience developing engaging programs. She is the Director of the Museum of History and Holocaust Education at KSU, and has led large-scale museum initiatives and trained hundreds of educators nationwide. Andrea is passionate about using travel, museums, and reflective practice to empower learners to respond to history with empathy, knowledge, courage, and care.

Andrea started the Teacher Ambassador Program in 2024 in partnership with The Breman Museum to develop invested, competent, expert teachers in Holocaust education who can better share their knowledge with the students and teachers in their local schools and communities.

Each year, our Teacher Ambassadors travel to deepen their learning through firsthand experiences and expert guidance. This year, they are traveling to Germany! Ambassadors are alumni of our Summer Institute, and those interested can click here to learn more about this program: https://tr.ee/ZCPbn6

Our museum will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26 from 9:00AM - 5:00PM.

This week, we’re celebrating the final group of our outstanding 2025 - 2026 Teacher Ambassadors!

Meet Susan Whaley and Amy Carter.

🍎 Susan is an 8th grade reading teacher, and has been teaching for Cobb County Schools since 2001. She holds a B.F.A. in Film and Drama from Syracuse University, and a Master’s in the Science of Teaching from Le Moyne College. Susan enjoys sharing her favorite books and travel experiences with her students, and in her free time, she hikes, travels, bakes, reads, and spends time with her three grown children and two grandsons.

🍎 Amy spent much of her career teaching 6th grade Social Studies for Morgan County Charter Schools. She now works with ELA teachers to provide additional academic support for students who need it. Amy is interested in historic preservation and local history, and serves her community through various organizations and boards. She and her husband are the parents of a 19-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter.

Today, on National Women in Aerospace Day, we’re celebrating the trailblazers who opened the cockpit doors for generations to come.

Today is International Museum Day, and we are grateful for every student, educator, and community member who has visited our museum or engaged with our work.

Our mission to humanize history extends far beyond our exhibits. From professional development opportunities for educators, K-12 programming, and Student Assistant positions and Internships, we aim to provide high-quality and engaging learning experiences that share the important lessons of history with educators, students, and our community.

In 2025, between visitors, students reached, teachers trained, programs delivered, and traveling exhibits viewed, we connected with over 167,500 people across 48 Georgia school systems and 18 states.

Meet more of our 2025 - 2026 Teacher Ambassadors!

This week we’re highlighting Gennie Shelton-Rauscher and Diana Harper.

🍎 Gennie is a veteran educator for Cobb County Schools where she has taught 8th Grade Georgia Studies for 20 years. She currently serves as the Social Studies Coordinator and a member of the Instructional Leadership Team at her school. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, learning new languages, studying history and government, watching TV, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves with her husband, Tom, and her father.

🍎 Diana has more than two decades of experience in community service and classroom instruction. She teaches 7th grade Social Studies in the Coweta County School System where she brings Asian and African geography, history, and government to life for her students. Diana has been happily married for 37 years and is the proud mother of her 28-year-old daughter, Christine.

This week marks National Salvation Army Week, and we’re highlighting a unique artifact from our collection, a Salvation Army bonnet from World War I.

Items like this help tell the stories of men and women who participated in the war effort by making sure soldiers and their families felt cared for and supported. Today, this artifact is included in one of our artifact bundles used for in-school education programs, helping students connect with important history through hands-on learning led by our expert staff.

On May 8, 1945, people around the world learned that the war in Europe had ended.
For some, the moment felt loud. For others, quiet.
Through our oral history collection, veterans and civilians remembered where they were when they heard the news: standing still, saving newspapers and celebrating in the streets.
