Many thanks to the volunteers who came to yesterday's Pioneer Cemetery Cleanup!

Reminder that in addition to these regular community cleanups, we coordinate an "adopt-a-spot" program. Email us at [email protected] if you're interested in becoming responsible for a particular gravesite. You can do that maintenance work at your convenience!

It's time again for a community Cemetery clean-up!

Join us at the Stow Street/Pioneer Cemetery near the Kramer Ball Fields of Fred Fuller Park on Sunday, May 17th between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.

This is a great opportunity for some productive time outdoors, a group activity for an organization, or to rack up some community service hours.

Bring gardening tools if you are able.

You can read more about the Cemetery on our website here: https://www.kentohiohistory.org/collections/stow-street-pioneer-cemetery

Thanks to everyone who came out to last night's Tap Talk!

We're especially excited for the next one, to be held on June 16th. Our very own Henry Halem, world-renowned artist and founder of Kent State's glass program, will give a presentation entitled, "The Renaissance of Art Glass in America." Save the date!

Congratulations, Tom!

Congratulations, Tom!

This week's featured MSK volunteer is Tom Hatch! Tom serves on the MSK design committee and is a big proponent for historic preservation. Together with the Kent Historical Society Museum, we're working on plans for the Ohio Open Doors program in September, featuring some of the cool historic buildings in the City of Kent. Stay tuned for info about that in June -- and thank you, Tom, for your commitment to MSK and the rich history of the City of Kent!

Reminder about tonight's Tap Talk at North Water Brewing! 🍅🥕🌽🫑🫐🍇🍠

Did you go to the Haymaker Farmers' Market today? Do you know how long it's been running and how it got started?

Find out at May's Tap Talk this coming Tuesday, May 12th, at 7PM at North Water Brewing!

Kate DeAngelis and Fritz Seefeldt will tell the story of Kent’s famed Haymaker Farmers’ Market. Much more than a place to find locally-grown produce, meats, and breads, the Saturday morning Farmers’ Market is a meet-your-neighbors community destination.

Yes, you can access sustainably-produced, fresh and prepared foods, but you can also enjoy the music of local musicians, arrange for food assistance if you need it, volunteer, enroll your kids in the “Power of Produce” club, sign up for the Harvest Dinner or for a real farm tour, and get your knives sharpened.

Haymaker Farmers’ Market was founded in 1992 as a shared vision between Jo Anne Jones, Fritz Seefeldt, Rick Hawksley, and Joan Inderhees. As a volunteer, Fritz Seefeldt managed the day-to-day operations for over 20 years and witnessed the success and growth of the Market. In 2025, Kate DeAngelis joined the team as Growth Coordinator. Haymaker Farmers’ Market continues to grow and fulfill its mission to create community through local food, art, and music.

We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Cooper Slater, the 2026 recipient of our Roger DiPaolo Scholarship!

As part of the application process, we ask students to pen an essay on the importance of knowing local history. Cooper focused on the centrality of May 4th in our city's remembered past and how it will continue to inform the ethics of future generations. He wrote, "For someone living in Kent, Ohio, local history is a living, breathing lesson on the cost of dissent, the dangers of government suppression, and the absolute necessity of civic engagement."

As Cooper graduates from Roosevelt High, he leaves behind such notable roles as President of the Environmental Club and Vice President of the Speech & Debate Team. He has also been a member of his school's Jazz Band and Drama Guild. Cooper plans to study both political and environmental sciences in college.
