👀 We need your help! Again! 👀

As you may know, Kernersville Museum has a *NEWER* location. With that being said, a lot of the Google reviews are outdated and related to the old museum location.

This is where we need YOU. If you’ve been to the location at 109 S. Cherry St., please go to Google and leave a review. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

‼️ Hey Kernersville history sleuths! We have an answer to our mystery photo and we wanted to share an update ‼️

“This photo was taken outside the store owned by William Ogburn Donnell Sr. The photo was taken following his funeral where he was laid to rest in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family is seated, except for one sister standing by the bicycle. His widow Martha Frances Lanier Donnell is seated in the chair back row third from the left. Drewery Lanier Donnell Sr. is seated on the porch third from the left leaning against the post. Two years later, he would marry Allie Dóre Körner at her home Körner’s Folly. I also have a photo of the family in front of the family home dressed in the same clothing, obviously made on the same day of the funeral. The children decided after their father’s death that they wanted a new home built for their mother. They together built the home that is known as Oak Bend. Now being restored in Oak Ridge.”

Whereas this building wasn’t located in Kernersville, we know that there is a strong connection to our history here through Drewery Lanier Donnell and his marriage to Dóre Körner. He even sold tickets at Körner’s Folly (come see them at Kernersville Museum!).

Thanks to Patricia Wolfe Peeler for this fantastic answer to our mystery photo.

Thanks to all of our Kernersville History Sleuths for chiming in! The post was viewed thousands and thousands and thousands of times and now we know!

Kernersville Museum marches on to preserve Kernersville another day!

Who doesn’t love a good mystery??? Someone dropped off this photo to the Kernersville Museum with no context and they need help with finding out details.

KVL internet sleuths unite! Is this old Kernersville? If so, where was it located? What was the purpose of the establishment?

What we know— there’s a sign on the window that says White House Shoes, there’s a Case Agency sign with an eagle on a globe, the community members rode bicycles to the place, it looks like there’s an advertisement in front about shoes, it looks like a social gathering spot, a case agency could be some sort of distributor (possibly tractor sales).

Also, are those milk bottles on the top of the stairs? Was this a general store? Who are these people? What year do you think this could be?

Could it be Main Street? Could it be Beeson’s Crossroads?

SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

The Kernersville Museum Foundation wanted to honor the lives of Joe and Kay Pinnix and their Kernersville story. The KMF recently purchased and installed a porch swing at the Kernersville Museum to not only to honor their many years of dedicated service to Kernersville, but to honor their Kernersville love story. ❤️

Joe and Kay began courting as teenagers when Kay came to visit her grandparents at our historic Bellamy House. Joe and Kay spent many summer nights swinging on the porch as their love story grew into something beautiful. Joe and Kay eventually got married and had two sons. They lived there happily ever after in Kernersville. Joe may no longer be with us in the flesh, but his legacy is able to live on through his wife, Kay, and Max the dog.

Joe was a dedicated public servant and lifelong resident of Kernersville, North Carolina. As a town alderman, he played an active role in guiding local policy, supporting responsible growth, and strengthening public services. His leadership reflected a deep commitment to preserving Kernersville’s character while helping it adapt to new opportunities.

Joe and his wife, Kay, have an extensive history of community involvement. They both served on numerous civic and nonprofit boards, including leadership roles in historic preservation efforts, and consistently gave their time to initiatives that improved quality of life for residents.

The Kernersville Museum Foundation continues to celebrate our community by reviving local history and sharing the stories that connect us to our roots (and our hearts).

The KVL 155 / America 250 celebration was incredible at the Kernersville Museum Complex. The Joseph Kerner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kernersville Woman’s Club were on site for tours of the Weaning Cabin and the Kernersville Museum. The Grassifieds played great music. Kernersville Dance Company shared their talents. Vendors filled the Historic Village. Thanks to the Town of Kernersville for hosting such a fabulous day!
