A new exhibition opens this week on our gallery walls, a celebration of the Landscape as interpreted with modern sensibilities by three area artists.
No landscape show would be complete without the work of Kate McGloughlin, a twelfth-generation native of Olivebridge and master printmaker and painter who is also the President Emerita of the Woodstock School of Art Woodstock School of Art
Kate’s heart beats deeply for this land, and her haunting paintings of the Ashokan Reservoir express the generational grief of people like her Irish ancestors who have been displaced from their home in the name of progress. Kate McGloughlin

The work of Cris Gamet is also rooted in a landscape that she experiences in a strongly personal way. Growing up riding horses on a dairy farm in the Finger Lakes and now based in Saugerties, Cris has spent a lifetime painting the world around her. Her work is rooted in the classical landscape tradition of en plein air painting yet infused with a contemporary sensibility derived from her assured but unfussy brushwork.

And coming from a different point of view, Margaret G. Still has perfected the art of the road trip as a way to find the forgotten landscapes of an America from another time. Eerily abandoned roadways, surreal color combinations, and off-kilter viewfinding suffuse this Saugerties-based artist’s work with a cinematic quality that makes her small paintings instantly recognizable.
