Happy May 10, aka 5/10! We’ve got our own 510 here at the Trolley Museum of New York! Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) car 510 (Société Franco-Belge, 1981) is the “youngest” Rapid Transit car in our collection, and with it we are able to demonstrate the evolution of rapid transit car technology in the 20th Century to our visitors. What’s your favorite “modern feature” on 510? For us, it’s the carpet!

A big thanks to Molly McVety for writing this story about SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) Car 618 being re-homed and preserved at the Trolley Museum of New York. Molly is a respected member of the 'Civilian Journalism' world (read as: not a Railfan or Transportation Correspondent) but was interested in the story from both a Philly perspective and transportation preservation context, and reached out for more information. You can read more of her work at PhillyVoice.

The car will be open to the public for limited tours starting on May 9, 2026, which is Opening Day at the museum in Kingston, New York.
