The saddle stitch is easily known as the most reliable stitch there is. It connects every hole on both sides of the leather and each stitch reinforces the next. We've extended our use of the saddle stitch to many of our leather goods, for maximum durability, wherever you take them.

King Ranch's preconditioning program occurs late summer into early fall and is one of the most critical times in a calf’s life. With guidance from nutritionists and veterinarians, we strive to minimize the stress of weaning by providing the best care possible. A successful preconditioning program ensures a healthy, vibrant calf, ready for its next stage in life.

Chon's Barn is named for Encarnacion "Chon" Utley Sr. He came to work at King Ranch in 1918 in his late teens, where he remained for almost 50 years. Chon is part of the initial group of men who prepared Santa Gertrudis cattle for the show ring and auctions. When the Barn stopped being used for cattle training, the Ranch carpentry crew used it as a storage and work area. One of Chon's sons, Encarnacion Jr., was a carpenter for King Ranch and worked in the Barn building items needed throughout the Ranch.

El Kineño is the 1950 hunting car that belonged to seven-term U.S. Representative from Texas’ 14th-congressional district, Richard M. Kleberg Sr.. Kleberg’s grandson, Mike Reynolds, commissioned a replica of the vehicle to be built over seven years starting in 2016. Reynolds enlisted Jay Robertson, owner of South Texas Outfitters in San Antonio, and Elvis Portillo. Robertson and Portillo then called General Motors to find the original report and accompanying 250 photos to learn how to build the car that Harley Earl designed decades before.

Every piece of the car was custom cut by hand. The final product comprises a 2005 Suburban, two 1952 Buicks, and a 1949 Buick. The doors on the replica were switched to su***de doors to be easier to get in and out of, unlike the original. Every piece down to the whiskey bar in the back was recreated.

Reynolds said, "It was originally supposed to be a casual salute to my grandad and the original car. But when Jay and Elvis got a hold of it, it turned into this incredibly beautiful project.”

The women of King Ranch, starting with Henrietta King, play a vital role in the operation. For generations, they have been a part of managing the Ranch, supporting the community through philanthropic projects, and integral to the success of the Ranch as a whole. The women of King Ranch are strong, well-respected, and a piece of American ranching history.
