The Seapoint International Artist Residency was founded in 2012, in an effort to bring multicultural writers, artists, filmmakers and musicians into a thriving and vibrant creative community. The Residency is a peaceful, unique and inspiring sanctuary in which to create. As the resident director of S.I.A.R., Alicia Goodwin offers her experience as an artist, writer, curator, and world-traveler to
visiting artists, as well as exposure to a wide network of other local, national and international individuals and organizations integral to a successful artistic cultural exchange. While each artist is encouraged to work at their own pace, each month will offer opportunities for artist talks, salons, visits to museums, galleries and other studios, and an open house style exhibition at the residency-run Gallery, located in downtown Kittery, Maine. The Cottage offers 3 furnished live/work rooms with water views, comfortable common space with a wood-burning fireplace, kitchen, bath, laundry, outdoor decks and expansive grounds, all perched above the Atlantic Ocean with a path down to the beaches and paths into the nature preserve. One live/work room is furnished with a piano and has a private entrance. There is studio space at the off-site gallery for more intense (messy!) work, and larger local studio space for rent for a nominal fee for artists whose needs require it. Our Location provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city, while still being close enough to visit by car, bus or train. We are 15 minutes from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, 1 hour from Boston, Massachusetts, and 4.5 hours from New York City. The residency is currently accepting application submissions for one to three month stays.
