MISSION STATEMENT

The Fountain City Art Center is dedicated to providing a variety of visual arts experiences and opportunities for the public in an inviting and educational environment. The Fountain City Art Center is a venue for area artists, art groups, performing artists and young students to exhibit their work, attend meetings, classes, workshops, lectures and demonstrations, and to find inspiration from one another. Our policy is to charge no admission or fee for any of the art exhibits, performances, or demonstration and lecture series making these programs available to everyone regardless of handicap, race, religion or creed. We actively seek annual contributions and grants in order to make art class scholarships available to those in need, especially area youth.

Our Homeschool Art students have been busy bringing their ideas to life—from sketches and character designs to handmade sculptures and creative experiments.

We love seeing how each student takes an idea and makes it their own. Sometimes the best part isn't just the finished artwork, but everything they discover along the way.

It's hard to believe we are already here! We're still enrolling!

Make time for art before the year ends and join us for the last classes and workshops of 2026 at Fountain City Art Center! Explore watercolor, acrylics, oil painting, drawing, pet portraits, color theory, and creative classes for young artists.

Classes and workshops begin October 31–November 14. Whether you’re trying something new or building your skills, find a class that inspires you!

Some classes will skip Thanksgiving week and resume afterward to complete the full course.

Supporting the arts also means making space for the people creating them.

The Knoxville Songwriters Association meets at Fountain City Art Center on Tuesday evenings from 5:00–8:00 PM, bringing local songwriters together to connect, share their work, and grow alongside other musicians and writers in the community.

We’re glad to have local groups like KSA gathering here at FCAC and to provide a space where creativity, in all its forms, can find a community.

Spend a creative Saturday with instructor Connie Pico and learn six essential watercolor techniques in this hands-on, one-day workshop.

Designed with beginners in mind, the workshop gives you a chance to experiment with the medium, build a strong foundation, and become more comfortable with how watercolor behaves on the page. It’s also a great refresher if you’ve painted before and want to return to the basics.

A little behind-the-scenes progress at FCAC.

Some of the most important improvements aren’t always the ones you see hanging in the gallery.

We’ve been making upgrades to our storage areas, display panels, and classroom spaces—creating better ways to organize materials, hang artwork, and make the most of the space our artists, students, instructors, and community use every day.

There’s still work happening, but each improvement helps make Fountain City Art Center a more functional and welcoming place to create, learn, and belong.

A big thank you to everyone lending a hand and helping these improvements come together.

Learn, practice, create with Carla Sanchez 🎨

There’s something special about learning art in a room where you can ask questions, try new techniques, and receive guidance right there at the easel.

Artist and instructor Carla Sanchez offers several opportunities to develop your skills at Fountain City Art Center, whether you’re interested in drawing, oil painting, portraiture, or figure drawing.

Upcoming classes include Drawing I–IV and Adult Oil Painting on Thursday, September 17, followed by Portrait Painting and Figure Drawing on Saturday, September 19.

Whether you’re strengthening skills you already have or ready to explore something new, come spend some creative time in the studio with Carla.

Tomorrow is Tuesday, which means it’s time to make some art!

Our Youth Homeschool Art Class meets Tuesday mornings at Fountain City Art Center, giving young artists a place to draw, experiment, explore new techniques, and develop their own creative voice.

Students work with everything from shape and proportion to bold lines, gesture, color, and abstraction—all while building confidence in their art.

The tables are busy, the paints are out, and everyone is focused on creating. Connie’s class gives artists the opportunity to work on their paintings, develop their skills, and enjoy creating alongside fellow artists in a welcoming studio environment.
