🏔️ Inspired by the Mountains

Doug LeClair’s love of the natural world began early, with everyday views of the Olympic Mountains from his childhood school in Bremerton, Washington.

Years later, the mountains still call to him.

From the Alpine Lakes and North Cascades to the waterways, coastlines, flowers, and wide-open landscapes of the West, Doug’s photography reflects a lifelong fascination with the changing beauty of nature.

Visit La Conner Artists Gallery this month to see Doug’s work as part of our May Featured Artist series.

His photography grew from a love of hiking and the Pacific Northwest outdoors, eventually expanding into western landscapes, flowers, birds, and scenes that invite viewers to pause and look a little closer.

📸 May Featured Artist: Doug LeClair

This month, we’re also delighted to feature Doug LeClair, a photographer whose love of nature and the Pacific Northwest outdoors shines through every image.

Doug’s fascination with the natural world began early, with daily views of the Olympic Mountains from his childhood school in Bremerton. Over time, hiking trips through the Alpine Lakes, North Cascades, and beyond deepened that connection and inspired his passion for photography.

After years of teaching elementary and middle school students, Doug turned retirement into a mission of learning, exploring, and growing behind the camera. His work captures the magic of mountains, waterways, coastlines, flowers, and the remarkable landscapes of the West.

Doug often shares the story behind each photo — where it was taken, what flower or bird is featured, and what makes the moment special — inviting viewers to take home not just an image, but a deeper connection to the natural world.

Visit La Conner Artists Gallery this May to see Doug’s photography and celebrate his eye for the beauty all around us.

🎨 May Featured Artist: Pete Silzer

This month, we’re honored to feature Pete Silzer, an acrylic painter whose work uses simple lines, vivid color, and expressive shapes to explore faith, emotion, and the human condition.

Inspired by artists like Georges Rouault and Picasso, Pete is drawn to the power of a few strong lines and colors to communicate something deeply human. He began painting in his late fifties, continuing a family legacy after his late father left behind hundreds of paintings created over decades.

Pete’s work includes his small acrylic canvas board series, “Peeps,” as well as reverent Jesus portraits such as “Sad Jesus” and “Jesus Victor.” Through these pieces, he reflects on what faith means to him — from the weight of the world’s worries to images of hope, victory, and spiritual devotion.

Visit La Conner Artists Gallery this May to see Pete’s work and celebrate his creative journey with us.

It was an uplifting gathering! I left their feeling much calmer, with so much more positive energy and much less agitation. It was completely focused on coming up with a plan!
