This past weekend, our Assistant Director traveled to Philadelphia for the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Conference to connect with museum professionals from across the country and explore aome historic sites along the way.

The conference was packed with new ideas, fresh inspiration, and reminders of why preserving history matters. Philadelphia is gearing up for America250 and the World Cup- what an exciting time to visit!

We can’t wait to put what we have learned into action and continue creating meaningful experiences for our community!

The Oldham County History Center would like to thank Ellie and Randy Troutman for their purchase of The Vermot Star carriage restored by WWII Veteran Howard Griffin (1927-2025) and donated to the history center by Howard's family. Ellie Troutman is a nationally accomplished horse trainer and competitor winning national titles in driving as well as western show for Arabians and Ranch horses. Ellie is a former board member of the history center. She and Randy have been long time supporters and we appreciate their purchase of this carriage as a fundraiser for our center. Pictured is Ellie's grandchildren, Ellie, her sister Melissa Preastly and her son-in-law.

The first River Tails Over Cocktails cruise of the season took place on Thursday evening. We could not have ordered a more perfect evening. Our guest was Jessica Whitehead, author of the book “Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard”. Hubbard and his wife spent many years floating the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. They traveled when the river waters were high enough and spent their summer at Payne Hollow on the banks of the river in Trimble County. They lived simply: no electricity, indoor plumbing or gas. They spent their time painting, writing, reading to one another and playing music.

The Oldham County History Center is so thankful for Ms. Whitehead’s visit with us, sharing the impact of the Hubbard lives on her own.

It was an evening well spent. A good time was had by all.

Thank you to the crew of the CQ Princess. You always take such good care of us on our journeys with you.

Our next River Tails Over Cocktails will sail on Thursday, May 28th. We will be joined by the man himself, Bob Thompson. We hope to see you there!
