📚 Art is typically thought of in the visual sense - drawings, paintings, sculpture etc. However, at the S.T.E.A.M. Station we broaden our definition of the arts - expanding within the range of the humanities such as the visual, literary and musical arts.

🚂 Debbie Mefford, local Oldham County author, writes a monthly column for the Oldham Era featuring a different children’s book each month. May's story arrived in time to celebrate Rail Fest 2026. While visiting the La Grange Railroad Museum with her Grandson, she discovered "Locomotive" by Brian Floca, reading in the Ernie's Education Room. It was also an unexpected spark of nostalgia, unlocking memories of growing up hearing and seeing trains roll through Oldham County.

"Our first home in Pewee Valley was an old farmhouse with no air conditioning. There’s no denying the discomfort of those hot summer nights; however, the open windows offered something in return: the chance to hear the beautiful, busy sounds of late summer evenings, especially the train horn as it echoed through the night and drifted into our home."

Mefford also generously mentions the La Grange Railroad Museum and Learning Center. Thank you, Debbie, for sharing your story and continuing to bring railroad history to life for all generations.

​The STEAM Station La Grange is thrilled to partner with the La Grange Railroad Museum and Learning Center to support their monthly Family Fun Day. We are a community-focused organization dedicated to encouraging the next generation to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through hands-on learning and fearless curiosity.

​Join us for an afternoon of high-flying excitement as we dive into the world of Stomp Rockets and Paper Aircraft!

​📍 Event Details:

​Who: All ages are welcome!

​🚀 What’s Happening:

​Get ready to engineer your very own unique paper aircraft. You'll have the chance to design, decorate, and test different methods to see what makes the perfect flight.

​Entry to this special event is FREE, though we greatly appreciate donations to help us continue providing these educational programs to our community.

Operation Lifesaver reminds us of the Eight signs and signals are there to help you make safe choices at every crossing. Crossbucks. Flashing red lights. Lowering gates. Pavement markings. Advance warning signs. Low ground clearance signs. Multiple track warnings. The Blue and White Emergency Notification System sign. Each one tells you something important. Knowing what they mean and how to respond is one of the most important things you can do near tracks and trains. Save this guide so it's there when you need it.

🚂 Witness the iconic red and silver of the R. J. Corman Railroad as it winds through the heart of Kentucky. Whether it’s the legendary "Alcan" train hauling aluminum ingots or the elegant My Old Kentucky Dinner Train in Bardstown, there is something truly timeless about these rails.

From its humble beginnings with a single backhoe in 1973 to operating 19 short lines today, R. J. Corman remains a cornerstone of American railroading. Next time you hear that whistle, know you’re hearing a piece of living history! 🛤️✨

🛑 Important Notice: Temporary Closure June 1-3 for Roof Work 🛑

​The museum will be closed from Monday, June 1st through Wednesday, June 3rd while we have some necessary roof work done.

​The safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff is always our top priority. Because this is major overhead construction, we are closing the building to ensure everyone stays safely out of the work zone.

​📅 What You Need to Know:

​Anticipated Reopening: We plan to welcome everyone back on Thursday, June 4th.

​Stay Tuned: We will post updates right here if the project requires any additional closure days.

​Ernie's Lil Engines: Please note that our playgroup scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd is CANCELLED.

​Monday Night Modelers: You are still on! Because the modelers meet after regular business hours when construction has paused for the day, your meeting will not be affected.
