I’m just over the moon about our new felt artist, Donna Dixon’s, tiny wool animals. Could you just die from the cuteness?! Talk about one of a kind and hand made...this mouse took upwards of 40 hours and every little detail is scrumptious! I have 2 pieces in the gallery now and more to come this week. Every piece is unique.

It was a different kind of class tonight, one where we played in the paint, tried new techniques, painted on each other’s canvases and even closed our eyes while we sketched with charcoal. You can’t make great art without letting go of expectations and just playing in the paint.

We’re bringing the Funky Monkey to Texas! Christmas Trunk Show at our home in Carrollton. Sunday, November 25th, 1-5pm. Leather purses and vests, quilts, robots, paintings, Christmas stockings and lots more. All hand made, one of a kind. Come and go. We will have plenty to eat and drink!

Funky Monkey Art Space is pleased to announce the addition of the work of world renowned artist John Nieto.
John Nieto (1936 - 2018) is one of Southwest’s most recognized and world renown artists. His non-traditional, bold use of color and style in Native American iconic images was a tribute to his friend and associate TC Cannon. TC Cannon was the first Native American artist to make use of th brilliant colors found in the acrylic paint. Red, blue, yellow, black and white for years were the main stay colors found in what was viewed and accepted as the native palette. Cannon broke free from the mold. His images we’re often considered caustic, bold and primitive.

Upon his friends untimely death, John Nieto carried on in honor of this style of artistic expression and reached the height of fame and world acceptance few artist even dare to dream of.

Jon Nieto was invited to show at Saloon D’Autumn at the Grand Palaises in Paris France and Tokyo Japan.

I love it when I get into a painting and cool things start happening. Painting is both a creative and organic process, I start with some intentionality but then it takes on a life of its own and becomes so much more than I envisioned. @ La Veta, Colorado
