Engage with our collection of 3,000 objects. Founded in 2004, the Hilliard Art Museum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette presents exhibitions and programs that engage the university and wider Acadiana communities, fostering the creative exchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary research rooted in the visual arts. The museum also preserves and advances scholarship on its 2500+ piece permanent art collection, ranging from 17th century landscapes to contemporary Louisiana photography.

Save the date: the galleries will be in motion.

On Monday, October 19 at 6 p.m., we’re partnering with for Fall Dance 2026, an evening of performances created especially for the Hilliard’s galleries and spaces. Artists from across University of Louisiana at Lafayette bring movement and live performance into the rooms where the art hangs.

Create & Play Café is heading to The Big Easel on October 17, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Families will create tongue & groove sculptures inspired by Curtis Patterson, whose work is on view now in "Persistent Vision, Sculptures from 2011 to 2026" at the Hilliard Art Museum. This is how we started Festivals Acadiens et Créoles weekend.

"Elemore Morgan Jr. — Photographs from the Festival of American Folklife, 1976" is now on view at the Hilliard. Twenty-three photographs, printed from the artist's original slides, bring Cajun and Creole musicians on the National Mall back into focus.

On view through December 19, 2026.

Free for members. Included with general admission.

Join us October 9 for a panel discussion and opening reception celebrating Elemore Morgan Jr. at the ’76 Folklife Festival.

Fifty years ago, Elemore Morgan Jr. documented Cajun and Creole musicians performing at the Smithsonian’s 1976 Festival of American Folklife. This exhibition brings that archive into view through 23 photographs, printed from Morgan’s original slides and exhibited for the first time, alongside ephemera from the artist’s papers.

This October, sit with the season.

On October 9th, the Hilliard opens Elemore Morgan Jr.: Photographs from the American Folklife, 1976, kicking off festival weekend with Archive as Art, a panel discussion and reception. Presented with Festival Acadiens et Créoles, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and the Center for Louisiana Studies. Free for members; included with general admission.

4:00 – 4:45 p.m. Exhibition Opening Reception

Families are invited back for Create & Play Café: Festival Edition on October 10th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free for families; children 10 and under always participate free.
