Travel back in time during our upcoming event STEM Saturday: Build Your Own Dinosaur tomorrow, Saturday, June 13 from 10:00 am-1:30pm. Young paleontologists can design and build their own dinosaur while learning how special features like horns, spikes, tails and long necks helped dinosaurs survive in different environments. This hands-on activity combines creativity, engineering, and science for a fun challenge perfect for all ages.

STEM Saturday activities are made possible through grant from Halliburton and are included with regular museum admission. Activities are open-ended allowing visitors to come and go while touring exhibits and the planetarium. Best for elementary and middle school ages, but older kids and adults can have fun learning something new or helping younger children.

Here's a quick reference for the schedule of planetarium shows in the month of June. We offer an expanded schedule of weekday shows for summer on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in addition to our regular weekend schedule. All planetarium programs are included with regular museum admission.

Learn about Louisiana wildlife conservation success stories through interactive games, hands-on activities and demonstrations. Endangered Species Day marks the anniversary of the Endangered Species Act, which was enacted in 1973 to establish protections for fish, wildlife and plants listed as threatened or endangered and plan for their recovery.

In preparation for Endangered Species Day with U.S. Fish and Wildlife this Saturday, May 16 from 10am to 1:30pm, check out this video from WAFB about the red-cockaded woodpecker. Join us to learn more about Louisiana wildlife conservation success stories made possible by the Endangered Species Act, which was passed in 1973 to establish protections for fish, wildlife and plants listed as threatened or endangered and plan for their recovery.

Red-cockaded woodpeckers makes their homes in mature pine forests. While other woodpeckers bore out cavities in dead trees where the wood is rotten and soft, the red-cockaded woodpecker is the only one which excavates cavities that are exclusively in living pine trees, making mature longleaf pine forests like those in Louisiana's Kisatchie National Forest ideal habitat for these small birds.

We turn off the highway and drive a couple of miles on a gravel road through the tall longleaf pines of Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest.
