This week's "Lake George Battlefield Moments" podcast highlights what looks to be a fascinating re-creation of the 1776 council of war among 5 Continental Army generals that occurred at Crown Point in July 1776 in the aftermath of the failed American invasion of Quebec. Crown Point Historic Site Manager Sam Huntington provides the details of the planned re-enactment that his site hosts on the afternoon of Thursday, July 2, in conjunction with Fort Ticonderoga and Mount Independence. It promises to be a fascinating program, and the public is invited to witness it.

After 7+ years of painstaking recovery, research and planning, we look forward to this Friday's milestone reinterment of the remains of 44 individuals who are believed to have perished at the Continental Army's smallpox hospital at Lake George in 1776. This week's "Lake George Battlefield Park Moments" podcast welcomes back Dan Barusch, Town/Village of Lake George Planning Director and Chair of the Courtland Street Reinterment Committee, to outline for us Friday's Repose of the Fallen dedication ceremony at Lake George Battlefield Park, when the last of the remains will be permanently placed in columbaria.

Historian and Battlefield Park Visitor Center Curation Committee member Mark Silo has spent the last several years investigating where the British provincial troops drew their defense lines in the Battle of Lake George, September 8, 1755. His findings were first published in the Winter 2023 edition of the Fort George Post and have been the subject of a number of site tours since then.

Mark has recently followed up on his initial research by comparing the 1755 landscape on the field of action with its 2026 features. As always, Mark provides some fascinating conclusions for those familiar with the physical features of Lake George Battlefield Park.

It was a magnificent weekend of history at Lake George, as the Alliance joined with the Warren County Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution and Fort William Henry in hosting a gala to celebrate this special remembrance of our nation's founding. Nearly 200 guests in attendance were treated to an evening of excellent Colonial-era food, 18th Century music and dance courtesy of the Glens Falls Symphony, and an inspirational presentation by our guest of honor, George Washington's Mount Vernon CEO Dr. Douglas Bradburn. By all accounts, it was a night that attendees won't soon forget, and we're very pleased that about 3 dozen local Alliance members were part of the audience.

This week's "Lake George Battlefield Moments" podcast welcomes back Doug Bradburn, this time to explain how Mount Vernon is celebrating America's semiquincentennial. As one would imagine, the extensive refurbishments of George and Martha Washington's grand manor will provide a stunning complement to the numerous commemorations of landmark 1776 milestones. Listening to Doug's descriptions of what's taking place will surely motivate many of us to make a special trip to visit Mount Vernon this year!
