Lake Oswego's Historic Heritage House is open to the public to visit our museum, and is available for rental for your events. Our annual events are First Wednesday, Collector Car and Classic Boat show, Historic Home tour, Holiday Gift Show, and more.

Thank you to those who responded to our membership survey! We've contacted the winner of our raffled prize for participating!

It was amazing to hear back from some of our members, past and present, about what they're looking for from the Oswego Heritage Council. Both long-term supporters and new care about preserving the past, educating people today, and building connections to each other through heritage.

As we prepare for the Fourth of July parade in a few weeks, today's takes us to Lake Oswego's Fourth of July parade in 1962!

The old cars paraded down A Avenue, and if you look in the background... It's the Heritage House, before it became the museum! Owned by Dr. William and Winifred Cane, during these decades, they used the building as their personal house and office.

WALK WITH US IN LAKE OSWEGO'S FOURTH OF JULY PARADE AND SHOW YOUR PRIDE IN LOCAL HISTORY!

We're looking for people to march with the Heritage House during the Fourth of July parade! With the 250th anniversary of the United States, it's a great time to show some pride in local history too. We'll be parading with a vintage car, but we want to highlight different eras of Lake Oswego history, and we need your help to do it! Bring your friends and family to join us, dress up in historical clothing, and walk (or ride!) with us.

Today's gives us a good look at some folks swimming in Oswego in c. 1915-1920!

You can see how Oswego existed between industry, with copious amounts of logging present in the area, and being a place to play.

Swimming in the Willamette River right off the beach at present-day George Rogers Park, you can see the log hoist in the background, built in 1900 to lift logs from the river onto railroad transportation. You can also see a steamship. During this time, there was significant talk to turn Oswego Lake into a log pond. Citizens protested and pushed Oswego into a different direction.

THE SUMMER OF WALKING TOURS!

Join us for a walking tour through historic Old Town, Lake Oswego! A docent will lead you through the neighborhood, sharing stories of the burgeoning Oswego. From early community life to iron to the residents who made these houses their home, you'll uncover the history right before your eyes. Houses, streets, and everything in between!

This tour will cover approximately 1.02 miles of walking on mostly even terrain. It lasts an hour, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Did you know Oswego had several covered bridges? There are even accounts on the one going over Oswego Creek getting washed out and rebuilt multiple times. You can often find them in the background of images, sometimes even with the sign for horses to keep off!

Today's photograph comes from a 1920s postcard, delivered to Mattie Peters! Mattie lived in Oswego and Sherwood, eventually settling in First Addition, Oswego with her husband.

We just added a new photo exhibit to The Stafford! Photographs of women from Lake Oswego history now line one of their main hallways. The best part of setting up a new exhibit is hearing the stories of the people who stop by to check it out!
