Did you know Oswego had several covered bridges? There are even accounts on the one going over Oswego Creek getting washed out and rebuilt multiple times. You can often find them in the background of images, sometimes even with the sign for horses to keep off!

Today's photograph comes from a 1920s postcard, delivered to Mattie Peters! Mattie lived in Oswego and Sherwood, eventually settling in First Addition, Oswego with her husband.

We just added a new photo exhibit to The Stafford! Photographs of women from Lake Oswego history now line one of their main hallways. The best part of setting up a new exhibit is hearing the stories of the people who stop by to check it out!

We love setting up these photographs throughout our community! If your business or organization is interested in something similar, please reach out.

It's been a while since we've heard from you!

In an effort to continually improve our membership program, we have developed a few questions to ask you as current or lapsed members. Please answer honestly and to the best of your ability. The survey should take ~10 minutes.

To show our appreciation to the time you have given to provide feedback, you will have the chance to win some Oswego Heritage Council swag and a $20 gift card to a local restaurant.

The survey will close on Friday, June 5th.

You can find the survey at https://oswegoheritage.org/membership or at the direct link here: https://forms.gle/Zz1NGcfvsaDV9UXR9

Sarah Ethel Baker lived with her family on a farm on present-day Childs Road. She would marry her neighbor, William Bays Cook. In this photograph, we can see Sarah Ethel with their first child, William Bays Cook Jr., and pregnant with their second. The house they lived in still stands and remains in the hands of their grandson.

Sarah Ethel and her husband William rest at the Oswego Pioneer Cemetery. In our collection, we have expansive copies of their family diaries from 1898-1936, chronicling life in the Hazelia area.

Join us on Wednesday, May 6th at 5:30 PM for "Porch Time: Home Life and Leisure in the Early 20th Century" by historical fashion expert, Kay Demlow!

When we look at historic houses, the first thing we see is often the spacious front porch. It seems that every house built between 1890 and 1930 had a porch! This was an era when front porches were expected on houses, and when those porches were used. What was our culture like in those “good old days”? And... What did people do on their porches? This was an era when front porches were expected on houses, and when those porches were used. What was our culture like in those “good old days”?
