The Tillamook Blimp Hangar is in dire need of funding after a storm ripped a hole in its roof. This enormous wood truss structure once housed multiple blimps.

The Port of Tillamook Bay has offered to sell the historic blimp hangar for just $1 to anyone willing to preserve it, but repair estimates range up to $50 million.

Despite displaying a date of 1885, this gingerbread house was demolished and eaten.

In order to save a historic building from demolition, remuddling or a sweet tooth it must have some type of protection placed on it.

In Lake Oswego historic properties can be protected in 3 different ways:

1 - listing on the National Register of Historic Places - NPS offers minimal protection from changes or demolition

2 - a Lake Oswego Landmark designation is a higher level of protection requiring review before exterior changes can be made and protects against demolition.

3 - a Historic Conservation Easement through Restore Oregon offers the highest level of protection as the property is monitored annually and there are legal consequences to unapproved changes or demolition.

Last night we had a member event with local author and former urban planner Adrianne Brockman. Adrianne began riding at the LO Hunt Club in the 1930's and she has written extensively on the history of the Lake Oswego Hunt Club. The arena is rumored to be the largest wooden truss arena west of the Mississippi and is on the Lake Oswego Landmarks list. It's also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
