The Arts Council of Lake Oswego works to ensure the arts are an integral part of life in our community, now and into the future, with the purpose of placement & preservation of public art, providing access to exhibitions, and advancing lifelong learning.

Join us TOMORROW, Thursday, October 22nd at 5:30pm for a special conversation with two luminaries of the Pacific Northwest art scene.

FEAR NOT: the What We (Be)Hold Artist Talk features artist Diane Jacobs and guest curator Kendra Roberts. Diane will walk us through a copy of her astonishing book arts piece WASP LOVE and all of it’s supplementary pieces, and discuss what skills she used and techniques she learned to create the various elements of the volume.

Our other special guest is Kendra Roberts, curator of What We (Be)Hold. You may know Kendra best as Founder & Chief Curator, Programmer & Producer of Common Ground Arts, or as the director of Blackfish Gallery, or as a maker of beautiful and unusual jewelry, or perhaps as co-curator of the upcoming “Terrain: a land art experience” exhibit at Leach Botanical Garden. Kendra will be discussing her journey as an artist and curator, including how she brought so many disparate parts together for What We (Be)Hold.

The event is free to attend. Light snacks and soft drinks will be provided. We will begin at 5:30 sharp!

What We (Be)Hold presents artworks that embrace the spirit of what holds our focused attention, wonder, or spiritual contemplation, as well as what we keep close.

What We (Be)Hold invites you to consider what it means to find connection, responsibilities, and sources of wonder in a shared world through diverse artistic perspectives displayed in a mix of mediums and vibrant colors. Together, these combined works offer a multifaceted view of individualized experiences, encouraging us to examine not only what we behold, but also how we hold ourselves and one another.

On behalf of the City of Lake Oswego, we are pleased to invite artist submissions of up to three works of art per artist to be considered for outdoor public display in Lake Oswego’s nationally recognized outdoor Gallery Without Walls rotating collection. In its twenty-sixth year, this program’s mission is to integrate art into the daily lives of residents and visitors. Artists can submit completed works and ideas for new work to be ready for installation in August 2027. Accepted artwork will be displayed throughout the downtown business district for a two-year exhibition period from summer 2027 to summer 2029.

We are committed to diversity and strongly encourage submissions from artists identifying with under-represented communities. We seek works of various media and encourage innovative submissions.

Submissions of artwork created within the last three years are preferred. The Selection Committee will choose up to fifteen artists to display. Selected artists receive an honorarium award of $1500. Deadline to apply: November 30th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.Artists can submit up to three completed artworks or proposals for new work to be installed August 2027.Two-year exhibition period, from summer 2027–2029.

$25 application fee (please reach out to us if this is a barrier to applying)
