Journey to ancient Rome with The AGB's Distinguished Lecture Series this Thursday!

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear FSC Assistant Professor of Art History Dr. Andrew Crocker present "Luxury from the Provinces: Reading Morality on the Walls of a Roman Villa." The presentation will outline the moral politics of Roman wall painting using the example of repairs to the décor of Villa A at Oplontis.

This event is presented in partnership with The Tampa Society of the Archaeological Institute of America.

This week, The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art was proud to host the scholarship presentation for the 2026 Kids TAX Art program!

The program invites local high school students to submit artwork for a chance to have their designs featured on Polk County property tax bill envelopes.

Congratulations to first-place winner Ivana Torres, who received a $2,500 scholarship, and her art teacher, Ariel Jones, who received a $500 award, thanks to program sponsor Southern Homes of Polk County.

To all of the talented student artists recognized this year, we loved seeing your creativity that you've shared with our community!

Next Thursday, The AGB Distinguished Lecture Series will feature FSC Art History Professor Dr. Andrew Crocker, presenting “Luxury from the Provinces: Reading Morality on the Walls of a Roman Villa.”

Don’t miss “Bakersfield Mist,” performed live at The AGB Museum of Art! Inspired by true events, Bakersfield Mist is a hilarious and thought-provoking comedy-drama that pits small-town smarts against big-city credentials in a battle over art and authenticity.

Presented in partnership with Theatre Winter Haven, this two-person play focuses on Maude Gutman, a Bakersfield resident who purchases a painting she believes to be a genuine Po***ck, and Lionel Percy, an art expert who travels to Maude’s home to authenticate the work.
