The Lucius Pond Ordway Building is a striking example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s belief that architecture should be both beautiful and purposeful.

Completed in 1952, the building was originally designed as an industrial arts center, housing spaces for carpentry, metalworking, automobile mechanics, cooking, and home economics. Wright considered Ordway one of his personal favorites on the Florida Southern campus because of its simplicity and practicality.

Today, Ordway has taken on a new chapter as the home of Florida Southern College’s School of Architecture, giving the next generation of architects the opportunity to learn inside a piece of Wright’s legacy.

The Thad E. Buckner Building, which houses the Hollis Room, has played many roles throughout Florida Southern College's history. Originally dedicated in 1945 as the E.T. Roux Library, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building honored Edwin Timanus Roux, whose support helped the College relocate to Lakeland after the 1921 Sutherland campus fire.

Built with the help of student labor, the building served as the College's library until the current Roux Library opened in 1968. Since then, the historic Hollis Room has welcomed Student Government meetings, lectures, and countless other gatherings to the space. More than 80 years later, the building remains a lasting symbol of Florida Southern's history and community.
