What a great turnout we had for our first Mountain Movies Night at the Museum: Crater Lake Monster!!

Over 30 people joined us with their comfy chairs/pads, jackets/gloves, blankets, snacks, witty comments, unending laughter and great community spirit! A special thank you goes out to the set up crew (you know who you are!), Lisa Coleman for sharing her popcorn, Jeff Paul for some particularly funny commentary, Brother Jack for identifying the location of the rocks in that one scene, the lady in the front row with the lip gloss comment (I'm sorry I don't know your name!), and Jeanie R. Preheim Lull for sharing hot chocolate with folks afterwards!!

Thank you everyone for making this evening so much fun and an extra thank you for cleaning up afterward - hugely appreciated! The general consensus at the end was that we'll do this again next year - same date, maybe a little earlier - watch for announcements and flyers next summer! Maybe we can make this a new tradition at the Museum!

Not only did the thieves take our B-24 memorial plaque, but we learned this morning that they also took every single SCE history plaque at the Portal Powerhouse visitor's area!!! A sheriff's report has been made, SCE contacted, FS contacted . . . and lots of news outlets contacted. Some evidence points to it being really recent, possibly just last weekend, thanks to the rain on Friday. This a much bigger situation now - help us find the perpetrators!

😭😡😭😡😭😡😭😡😭😡😭. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
We just discovered this afternoon that someone STOLE the B-24 plaque at Eastwood!!!! It was a wonderful tribute to loss of the B-24 Liberator "Exterminator" crew that perished when the plane crashed into Huntington Lake on December 6, 1943. It was placed on this rock in 1991 at the culmination of a Big Creek School fourth grade project headed up by Mr. Crider. Taking a plaque that honored those who died for our country AND taking something the students worked so hard to create is incredibly wrong and offensive! 😭😡😭😡😭😡😭😡😭. If you were one of the wonderful students involved in this project, please reach out to us!

PLEASE HELP!!! We don't know exactly when it was taken - help us narrow down the time by commenting on the last date you might have happened to see it. The last time we took photos of it was in 2024 and vaguely remember seeing it early last summer when putting up museum flyers at Eastwood. It never occurred to us that anyone would ever do something like this! If you have any information on this situation, please PM us - it's not likely we'd get it back, but it's worth a try!

Let's end the Summer of 2026 with our first-ever Mountain Movies 🎬🎬🎬 event on September 5, 2026 at 8 pm! Come laugh at a really bad movie filmed at Huntington Lake in 1977 - THE CRATER LAKE CREATURE! 🦕🦕🦕🦕🦕 It's free!

This is an outdoor presentation, so bring a bench pad or a comfy chair of your own. Dress warmly and bring your own snacks/ drinks! It's 90 minutes long - we'll be done around 9:30 PM. Bring a flashlight as well - it will be dark at the end!

You'll see familiar locations, including the inside of the old Will 'O the Wisp restaurant and maybe recognize a few local faces that were hired as extras. Recognizing locations around Huntington Lake makes it worth watching!!!🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

Last Saturday was another wonderful day at the Billy Creek Guard Station Museum! We had great music and plenty of kid's activities going on - scavenger hunts and bug hunting! Thank you to those of you who came by for a visit! We are open three more Saturdays 11 AM to 4 PM - come by to say hi, share a story, and chat with friends!! We would love to see you!!!

We had a great day at the Museum last weekend! Lots of folks came by for a visit and our volunteers were kept busy answering questions! One couple that visited had honeymooned in our Museum when it was still a guard station - how cool is that? They were looking for a photo of the first helicopter in Big Creek - we finally found it in our new and popular Book Nook! Open on Saturdays 11 AM to 4 PM, come by to tell us your Huntington Lake stories!!! We would love to hear them!
