So proud of these students' participation and efforts in Culture Class with Barona Museum to learn this history and never forget!

Barona Charter School Students participated in Orange Shirt Day--a day of remembrance for the Native children who were forced into government-run boarding schools for the purpose of assimilation and erasure of Native culture. We remember those who survived and those who did not.

It's Native American Day!
Today is a great day to reflect on our history and celebrate our adaptability and resiliency while maintaining our culture and tradition. WE ARE STILL HERE!

Barona Charter School middle school students visited Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, CA as a part of their culture class studies on boarding schools with the museum. We learned from Lorene Sisquoc about the history of the boarding school, saw the museum, and toured the campus with some of the high school students. It was a very eye-opening field trip and we all learned a lot!

So proud of Elijah and this story he wrote for Barona Charter School's Hawk News episode airing this week. Barona Museum spends the month of September teaching our students about boarding school history, culminating with Orange Shirt Day on September 30th. Join us and help spread the message of hope and the history we cannot forget!
