This spotlight Sunday we are featuring our talented artist Judy Niewald!

I find art to be a form of release, while not naturally suited to rigid
academic structures, my art became an essential means of expression and
personal grounding, fulfilling a deep internal need; it is less about
commerce and more about honest expression.
Guided by my faith and by the natural world, my work leans toward
realism, focusing primarily on animals, forests, and organic forms, however
I am exploring with abstract art lately. I have worked in many variations of
medium throughout my life, focusing for the last two years on working with
encaustic beeswax. I find the hot wax allows for depth, texture, and
dimensionality while inviting an element of surrender-permitting the wax
itself to influence each piece’s outcome.
My aim is to convey the emotional presence of the subject within its
environment, encouraging quiet reflection and connection. Though realistic
encaustic painting is less common today, it has deep historical roots. I
hope to honor this tradition while offering a renewed perspective.
