What a whirlwind of a month for the old Dal Paso, as preparations were made for the 2025 Golden Tornado Jubilee celebration, traditionally held every five years. This was the first official school wide gathering since 2015, so classmates and friends were ready to gather, and gather they did. From several classes from the 80’s, to the class of ‘77, to open touring hours, tp the Literary Lamesa event, the museum was very busy!

The museum was pleased to have the Dawson County Public Library host a community event at the museum recently. What a fun and informative way for two county agencies to “connect”!

It’s Jubilee time again in Lamesa! As usual, the museum will be a popular place during the reunion weekend. Several LHS alumni groups will have gatherings here, the museum will be open for tours on Saturday July 5th from 1:30-3pm, and then the Literary Lamesa authors event will take place from 3-5pm. We are currently working to make the upstairs look a little more like “Tornado Alley”. Hope to see you there!

The Dal Paso Museum board pays tribute today to our friend and fellow
Board member, and former long time board president Judy Tyra Beam, who passed away last week. Mrs. Beam loved and served the museum so well and was a wonderful leader, mentor and friend to all! She led the charge for improvement, enhancement, and the promotion of the museum, local history and community inclusion. She truly had a dream of making Dawson county history come alive, be known and understood and she strived to draw in every age group and sector of the community who had a role in that history. She always wanted things to be fun and for fellowship to be the center of every museum effort. Her amazing creativity and vision was a driving force in her tenure and she loved what she was doing! She truly gave 100% to every project. She cared for each of us and made it her practice to check in on everyone, and to build friendships with all who crossed her path. She remained on our board member list, in gentle remembrance, even when her presence with us was no longer possible. Her influence and contributions to our community through all she did here and in other community groups will remain a valuable and lasting gift to Lamesa and Dawson county! We give thanks to her family for “sharing” her with Lamesa. We will long remember her joyful spirit. In loving memory, The Dal Paso Museum board, Delois Burkett, Sara Dodson, Theresa Estes, Judith Holladay, Esther Miers, Connie Nance, Jane Stone, Donna White, Vicki Whitman, and her dear friend and former long time board member MaryLane Peterson

Wow, it has been a while since we have shared museum news, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy at “The Old Dal Paso”! The last couple of years have been “different” for all of us, but we have managed to stay afloat and are so thankful for supporters, donors, participants, and guests. We have had several workdays which have perked and enhanced the upstairs museum. But there is always so much more to do. December 2022 marks a 35th anniversary of the museum in the current location. If you can manage with the fine print, read the article recently published in the local newspaper. We are also proud to post a couple of fun photos of some board members gathered round the new Christmas tree, which was donated by former board member, Sharron Brooks. The museum also has an entry in the local library’s Christmas tree forest. We are currently conducting our annual supportive membership drive. We appreciate this support, as well as all memorials and donations—-all tax deductible. Facility rental for parties and events has been steady. Here’s to many more decades for “The Old Dal Paso”!
