What is 100 years old (or older), goes 140 miles on 5 gallons of gas, celebrates by sipping wine, and then watches the San Antonio Spurs take home the big win? That would be the San Antonio Model T Ford club! They toured the Keystone Star Hotel, the Merritt Roman rock collection, the grounds of the Adelphia, the beautiful homes on West 3rd and 4th Street, motored around Hancock Park, wandered through the car collection at Lampasas Auto Company, enjoyed tacos at the Pavilion in Campbell Park, and filled up their cars at HEB to be ready for Saturday.

At 10:00 a.m., thirteen cars over 100 years old and two "newer" cars that were only 95 years old, drove to San Saba for lunch at Pecan House Grill, then over to the Regency Bridge for photos, back on 580 to Stoneledge Winery to celebrate, and then to Alamo Coffee to watch the Spurs game that evening. Sunday was breakfast at the Keystone and photo ops at the Santa Fe Depot and the Courthouse. On lookers of all ages waved and took photos as the procession made its way along the route at a "blistering" 35 mph top speed.

All in all, they spent two nights in Lampasas hotels (some spent three nights), bought local gas, ate dinner in Lampasas, enjoyed coffee and beer at Alamo Coffee (not at the same time), breakfast tacos from Storms, and all left with smiles on their faces after having a blast with no casualties. Ok, there was one small hiccup. The 1926 Model T Roadster from the museum decided it didn't need it's muffler after the first 10 miles. Other than sounding like a circus ride, it made the full tour without any further problems.

I know, we were all disappointed that the Model T Ford Lampasas Tour scheduled for April 10-12 had to be rescheduled because of rain BUT, they are coming next weekend from May 29 through May 31! We anticipate 15 or more 100 year old "Tin Lizzies" to be arriving at the courthouse square at 2:00 p.m. this coming Friday! We will be cruising around town on Friday with stops at the Santa Fe Depot, Merritt Roman's rock collection, Hancock Springs, Silk Stocking Row (West 3rd and 4th Street), and a dinner in Campbell Park.

Saturday we will be driving on 580 West to San Saba and out to the Regency Bridge for photos and back. We will be stopping at Stoneledge winery around 4:00 to relax and enjoy the view from the ledge before making our way back to town. Come join us, check out the cars, talk to the owners and enjoy a glass of wine.

If you happen to be driving 580 West Saturday afternoon, keep in mind that a Model T will cruise about 35 mph (maybe 40 downhill with a tailwind). So wave, smile, and honk when you blow by us.

We have just taken delivery of a very special vehicle and needless to say, we are VERY excited!! It is a 1924 Ford firetruck, complete with ladder, nozzles, tools,…! The chassis was purchased new from Clifton George Ford in San Antonio and delivered to Simms Fire Equipment to be fitted as a fire truck. The truck was used in service in Brazoria County where it was found in a barn and restored in 2018.

There it is!! The brand new addition to the Lampasas Auto Company Museum. It is now the oldest vehicle in the museum dating back to 1909. It was manufactured by the Maxwell Auto Company. Maxwell produced cars from 1904 to 1925. In 1925, Maxwell was purchased by the Chrysler Corporation. Notice the “mother-in-law” seat behind the front seat. It got its name because it could isolate the mother-in-law from the daughter and husband.

If everything goes as planned, we should have two very exciting additions to the museum this week, and one I just found out about yesterday. Since I only had an hour notice on the Packards, some were disappointed to have not seen them. So let me just say, that today (Saturday) around 3:30, we might be getting a very special surprise if you happen to be downtown and want to swing by. Otherwise, I will be posting photos.

Our little car museum is drawing quite a crowd these day! This morning, the Texas Packard owners showed up in Lampasas for a tour. They had cars parked up and down Western and Second Streets. Fortunately, Lee Martin was there to share the details about each of the cars in the museum. Thanks to Lee and Tammy for the photos.

The Model Ts have rescheduled for May 29-May 31.

Look who showed up at the museum today! The Shelby Cobra Club! They were over in Salado and looking for something fun to do and noticed our little car museum in Lampasas, so they made the drive over to check it out. By the time they left, they had been through the Lampasas Auto Company museum, the Keystone, and the Santa Fe Depot. Of particular interest to them were the signed photos of Carroll Shelby at Lemans in 1966 and the magnesium wheels to the Ken Miles Shelby Mustang. Thanks for stopping by!

What would a Ford museum be without a Model N series tractor? Now the Fordson has a companion. The collection now features the Fords that put the world on the road and the farmers in the fields. All we need now is a WWII Ford jeep and a WWI Ford tank. Yes, Ford made a tank! I’d love a Ford B-24 bomber but don’t think it would fit.

We have an exciting new addition to Dino’s Lounge in the Lampasas Auto Company building. The back bar was acquired from Salado where it originally was part of the Stagecoach Inn, and was then in a museum for years. There is lighting behind the stained glass side panels.
