🇺🇸 Flag Day 2026 – William McKinley Camp #21, SUVCW 🇺🇸

Today members of the William McKinley Camp #21, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, were honored to participate in our community’s Flag Day observance.

Throughout the day, Camp members helped bring American history to life through living history presentations, patriotic instruction, ceremonial demonstrations, and a formal Flag Folding Ceremony. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the civil war through our multiple museum quality pieces our living historians, today we made certain for education on the history of our nation’s flag, the sacrifices of those who have served under it, and the enduring principles of liberty, duty, and citizenship that it represents.

A highlight of the program was the ceremonial folding and presentation of the United States Flag, followed by musket salutes rendered in honor of our nation, our veterans, and those who have defended the freedoms symbolized by the Stars and Stripes.

The Camp also presented living history interpretations of the Revolutionary and Civil War eras, reminding attendees that the American flag has witnessed our nation’s struggles, triumphs, sacrifices, and continued pursuit of a more perfect Union for nearly two and a half centuries.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants, organizers, volunteers, clergy, veterans, living historians, and community members who joined us in honoring the flag of the United States.

As the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, we remain committed to preserving the memory of the soldiers who saved the Union and ensuring that future generations understand the history, sacrifice, and responsibility represented by the American flag.

“The flag does not belong to one generation alone. It belongs to all Americans—past, present, and future.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Ray Branstutter, our first commander, of John S Kountz Camp 14. Billy moved from Kentucky to Toledo Ohio in late 2025. He was born in 1961. He sought membership in the SUVCW as part of newly established Camp 14. Billy was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. While he was never installed as Commander, he was voted in by the members of the Camp, but had taken ill before the Installation in April. Details abut his passing and any announcements as to burial have not been released. May he rest in God’s eternal Peace. Thank you Commander.

We are saddened by the loss of our brother.
